Last night started on a "Mercury is in retrograde stay at home" note. All the signs were pointing to--"GIVE UP your plans and surrender to fate". We- of course as Pirates of adventure would do no such thing. When we confronted opposition from the police and a line of flares blocking us from our friends place (and our only real source of great makeup) we persisted. Sure there was a madman barricaded in the building threatening to kill everyone in his path-but we were on a mission. We eventually had to forfeit the great wine and pirate makeover for the rum and rink. We drove on - and ended up applying smudged eyes and faces in the darkness of the parking lot.
For those of you unfamiliar with the WORLD on WHEELS- it is a real retro roller rink from the era of Charlies Angels- with crazy carpet like The Price is Right. Ramps that roll you straight down to the floor and disco ball madness. My outfit was more like Stevie Nicks gypsy than true pirate- Viv was definitely Johnny Depp- . I still own the same skates that I wore in the 5th grade. I haven't grown since than. The purple wheels have danced across sidewalks from Ohio to the paths of Venice CA. Getting into a rink really brings on a wave of excitement. You realize that just like the bicycle-you really don't forget how. Viv was a bit less confident and like a brave pirate took some rum and hit the wood.
this is a real live Roller DERBY girl- she said that I should come and practice with them sometime and see if I'd like to try out for the derby. She said that my speed could be an asset. wow! just like Rachel Welch
I've known little Miss Desi- since she was 13- and although she still looks it- she is actually 19 now and a freshman at college. She practically grew up on the Echo Park ARt Block- just like little Vinca will someday.
I think I saw this Romance novel cover in my moms bathroom...something about a pirate rogue that kidnaps the aristrocat daughter before she was about to marry the stuffy bore- starring the fabio pirate
