Supposedly in honor of the new movie release- they have transformed a few local 7-11 markets to look just like the Springfield Apu owned spots. Time is running out however to get yourself a pink frosted sprinkle donut.
I recently had the priveledge of creating an illustration for the cool music zine L.A. RECORD. My piece is of singer Marnie Stern. Check out her interview here:
MARNIE STERN PLAYS THURS., AUGUST 2, AT THE ECHO, 1822 W. SUNSET BLVD., ECHO PARK. 7:30 PM / $12 / ALL AGES. WWW.ATTHEECHO.COM.
This wednesday at the show pony- please join us for a lovely day party-til sundown at the shop. This festive party will feature the folk music of Alessi-visiting all the way from LONDON! Please come by and say hello. We will also have a lil trunk show with amazing new clothes and jewelry by ANNAKIM Violette.
Snacks and drinks will be served.
Alessi lives in a little house in London where she makes her songs.
She uses shells and sequins for their rhythms, the guitar to paint
the scenes, the keyboard and glockenspiel for decoration and her
voice to tell the stories . . .
Paying attention to the smallest and yet sometimes the most
significant details in the natural world is inspiring to her song writing.
Trees, leaves, constellations, birds and the studying of dreams are
some of her favourite subjects to write about.
The song For One Year was recorded on a lovely summer day in
Los Angeles with Blake Collins, who shared Cloud no.17 and played
the piano, helped Alessi to tap the teacups and stir the water . . .
Alessi records all of her songs in her bedroom and is currently
putting her record together, we've heard through the willows that
the record will be titled Notes from the Tree house but we arent
yet sure if we heard that correctly . . .
She has played (and read) at Night & Day up in Manchester
(thankee to Johnathan Rice), Bar 107 faraway in Los Angeles
(thankee to the Portable Infinite) and at the end of an enchanted
garden in East London (thankee to S.O.S), in and around London
Town and she has plenty more future performances up her sleeves . . .
You'll hear about all upcoming appearances right here at this very spot ...
BUT, for now hum along hummingbirds and fill 'yer ears! ...
We heard this about Alessi ' s music . . .
'' it's not from round here '', said Andy Connell of S.O.S ....
'' it sounds like someone recorded a ghost '' said Alan Marke of CHXP ....
''your music makes me want to climb a tree find a koala bear hug him and steal his stash of lollipops '' said Melvin of Wonderful Spells ....
'' neverknowingly understood '' said Corrine Drewery of S.O.S ...
Remember how fun it is to bid for things on ebay and score good loot?
Can't recall that rush? Better go to visit my show pony shop and place some bids. There will be more and more listings daily- as I am unloading various items from my storage spaces.

I have always had a fascination with Jane Birkin. Her stunning looks and incredible pout could stop traffic. Yesterday, after a good long period of crying, Miss Viv told me to turn the channel and watch WONDERWALL. The psychedelic SWINGING London film from 1968 was just what the Dr. ordered. I got lost in a blur of fab colors, fashion frenzy and soft soundtrack by George Harrison (my favorite Beatle).
I couldn't take my eyes of the screen. The quirky plot involves an eccentric but lovable scientist who forms an obsession with the girl next door. He creates a wonder wall full of peep holes in order to spy on the object of his affection. Set in 1960's London, Jane Birkin plays a fashion model named Penny Lane. A psychedelic fantasy that takes voyeurism to a new level. The treehouse like loft space is adorned with painted stars and silent movie posters. Wild wallpapers and magic stained glass panels drag the viewer into the absurd abyss. I was hoping to transport myself into that room somehow.
Not to be the bearer of bad news, but I need to cover some hefty healthcare costs in the next few weeks...so
I will be unloading a few of my favorite large paintings. If you've ever wanted to own one of my art pieces...now is the perfect time to get one for a good cause. I am slowly getting things photographed to sell online, so the smaller pieces may take a little longer to list.
No need to fret- or worry, I am going to be fine. I just need to have an operation. Hope this news doesn't come as a bummer to your summer.
I will be listing them by title, with the size and price
PLEASE CLICK ON IMAGES TO SEE THE ENTIRE PIC
I will be posting the smaller bits and things later this week.
I opened my store Show Pony so that I could find and feature clothing pieces that resembled art work. Of course it's not always easy to discover one of kind clothing that tells a story. Every once in awhile you stumble upon a designer who takes your breath away. This week via Susie's Stylebubble I was introduced to designer Emma McCorquodale. Her delicate and dreamy designs are pinned to walls with tiny holes and magical dyes dripping from ruffles.
in the words of the designer Emma:
My sketchbooks are intrinsic to the development of my collections. The source of the story, mood and all inspiration which come from a variety of fields, from my own sketches to ceramics, nostalgia, a photograph, sculpture, found garments and always heavily influenced by Japanese culture which is always at the core of my own design aims. I am influenced by the functional construction of pieces combined with a delicate beauty, designs which can be collected and treasured. I am not influenced by the seasons, the 6 month turnover of the fashion world, i feel this is dated. Designers i admire are Anne Valerie Hash. Demulimeester, Comme, Undercover.

When I was a young girl attending Catholic School in Ohio, uniform dressing was a must. You were not even permitted to wear colorful socks (I was once scolded for my white FONZEE Ayyyy!! knee highs) and had to wear the specific saddle shoe from Buster Brown. Considering these restricted options- I had little room for creativity, when it came time for dressing. I did learn, however that the nuns did not mind fanciful hair styles. So I grew mine to my waist and begged my mother to change my hair style every day. She became a master at the french braid, fish tail, Side pony, Princess Leah...etc... Her moment of glory was the braided Bo Derek 10 look complete with babyd blue beads. The first hairstyle to set the whole school yard in a frenzy. I still have an obsession with accessories for the hair. I love all kinds of crazy clips from the 80's, beaded flapper headbands and folk leather bun holders. I discovered recently on EBAY a seller who has collected and gathered a vast assortment of hair clips from Victorian era to bad 80's. If you were in need of a little hair flair- go and get 'em

Well, finally an Ebay seller has tackled that category that has been lacking...the ol Haunted jems. RelicsandRunes have presented a treasure chest of bit and bobbles containing magic spells and haunted teardrops. This particular piece that caught my eye has the following powers:
This relic holds the key to unlock a powerful doorway.
The sequential sacred numerical code was forever hidden within it’s metallic makeup.
Each of the three crowns possess the power of an entire kingdom.
To wear this amulet is to experience eternity, and witness the power of immortality.
You shall be a royal heir, worthy of the thrown beyond the bloodline of a high order of spirits.
You shall claim your rightful place in the majestic realm of twilight.
The forces of BENZINE and SACHOUL await thee, and shall serve thee with any command.
They are griffins.
They desire to meet and even exceed your every wish.
They shall be just two of the many followers and servants that shall await the one who possesses this relic.
Your mind and spirit shall become transformed, transported to places and times that you know not of.
This anointing shall flow forth into thy natural life, and effect your daily existence.
Extraordinary abilities shall be at your disposal, as from your hands shall flow energy, and cast forth from your fingertips shall bring about wonders.
The natural powers of fire, lightning and wind shall be supernaturally awaiting your command.
Claim dominion over all that surrounds you.
DO NOT settle for anything less than the best
DO NOT allow fear, doubt or disbelief to stand in your way
DO NOT deny that which is upon you, and shall be within you.
Even the earth’s magnetism, and the sun’s solar inferno, and the moon’s lunar reflections shall be nothing compared to this power.
From the tallest trees and mountains, to the deepest canyons and ocean floors, this power rests.
TAKE that which is yours for the taking
CLAIM that which you shall have bestowed upon your life
DISCOVER that which remains undiscovered unto yourself
If you have always known there was a higher calling upon your life… and something great that you were born for… this is it.
If you have struggled through life, searching for your meaning… the purpose of your existence… this is it.
If you feel the yearning for greatness, and the quest for excellence… this is it.
YOU shall hold the key to unlock the gateway
YOU shall possess the secrets to understand the connections between this reality and other realms.
YOU shall open the doorway into the far reaches that crosses over between here and the heavens.
BENZINE and SACHOUL shall be your guides, and shall begin the process to enrich and enchant your life.
Then, many more shall follow.
And with each great spirit shall come more abilities.
And with each ability shall come more greatness
And with each greatness you shall rise higher and higher.
This is a relic with limitless anointings… countless blessings… and endless miracles.
here's the haunted cat and lady spirits necklace
Some of you may already know that I am working on a new T-shirt and clothing line. All of the pieces are made here in L.A. and some are mineral washed, embroidered and layered with colors in the same way I treat my paintings. The line will be completed sometime in Sept or OCT- and then sent off to a boutique someplace near you. Here's a sneak peak at some of the pics photo genius Jeaneen Lund shot for the website!
If you know any good buyers who may want pieces like these for their shops please let me know. There are 20 other designs!!
It takes a lot to drag me from the comfort of my home (and my georgie boy). But of course I will venture outside of my door for a Lavender Diamond show at the Echo. Becky Stark and gang were playing the show for OUTFEST. The Cult of Becky Stark has expanded. She has the power to make people dance in the streets to choreographed sequences
Annakim and I decided to represent Echo Park Style.
We escorted Becky to the secret room upstairs where she tried on new costumes for the show. We advised that this purple confectionary delight was the best choice. She feared the pompom rose straps were too much. What would Alexander McQueen do? Of course take it to the next level. Attach a stuffed bird to the waist and add glitter.
How could she not see that this dress was perfect for her show...
"Why Becky, who on Earth made that fab frock you are wearing?"
It's a bonafide FLIRATIONS!?? only the best for Becky
When Becky raises her arms the crowd follows as if in a church service. I'm telling you the girl has a heavenly voice like an angel. So high it's almost shattering glass and injuring pets. Her in between song banter about Earth being so sexy and such add to the charm.
After the show, her fans flocked towards her with pen and paper in hand.
This past weekend, the shops on Echo Park stayed open late in honor of the 30th Annual LOTUS Festival. Viv made her fabulous Bastille Day drinks and Kimberly Faith played records. Annakim came by and showed off her new eggplant friend. The profile on that vegetable- WOW!
I'm going to be selling off more of my drawings and paintings that have been stacked up in my workspace. So if you need something pretty for your wall- stop by and sneak a peek.
Later in the eve of Bastille Day-
Mr. P and I attended the downtown wedding of our friends Donita and Bob. The festive party was held in the elaborate basement of the HOTEL Figueroa, where Mr. P and I had our 2nd date... 3 years ago.
My friend Jeaneen is an amazing photographer. She recently took a trip to Joshua Tree to document the Clean Air-Music Under the Stars concert. Out there she ran into some darling desert girls and followed them through Pioneertown. Here are some of her photos as she captured the magical desert sunset
just when the inspiration well may have reached empty...the Couture Fashions parade by again.
thank goodness. The richness of mauves and magic shades stolen staight of a painter palette. Galliano always taps into some dream like place and delivers it to the ladies.
highlights from the best of the best of Christian Dior, LaCroix, Chanel and Gaultier
Opening night turned out to be a success. I was introduced to all kinds of cool art collectors- and locals who told me what I should do with my last day. Besides all the great strangers... All of my favorite faces made an appearance:

now it's time to say goodbye to the best food, greatest cups of coffee, and the sweetest people in the land.
LEt's not go into detail about how we missed our plane and the airline losing my luggage...cause that is just sad. How about I tell you how much fun I've been having here in Portland, or should I say the "FOODIE City"?
Seems that everyone is a real organic, food enthusiast. All of the espresso makers treat their coffee concoctions like they are genius works of art. This morning my foam actually had a marbleized heart! Mr. P said he may never leave. He wakes up and has the best coffee of his life- zero rants, then reads his book while resting on an apple crate. We like to partake in the many happy hours- that serve $1.95 plates while serving up the best local Oregonian beers.
We have walked everywhere and seen amazing old timey oyster bars and darling pubs. There are vintage shops gallore and lots of outdoor eateries.
We are staying at the ACE Hotel, formerly the 1920's shanty CLYDE. The room is enormous and is fit for an entire band or a king? You can rest in the huge old fashioned tub while watching t.v.
The fourth of July found us crashing a BBQ- where the host tossed a pile of crawdaddies on the table. I had never eaten one before and found them prehistoric. Really tasty despite all of the labor. There was also a four-way beer bong for those up to the challenge. Later we went on the roof of an art gallery and had a 360 degree view of the entire cities fireworks!
VOODOO Donut! wow
FOR info on the show go to www.motelgallery.com
Awhile back I made two promises to myself
1. NEVER book a flight out of LAX earlier than noon
2. Never post miserable blogs complaining- because people don't need more crap in their lives
Well, sorry folks
The call time for the plane to Portland is in fact 8a.m.
translation for that means a 4:30 wake up call.
Notice this post is being created at 1:58.
That means the bummer summer has arrived.
That means that although Georgie Boy is racing around chasing glitter pompoms-
his person is in fact exhausted. He has energy for days at nighttime, although the day time is reserved for frozen vegetable AC, and naps on the bathroom tile
Today my place was seriously hotter than I imagine hell to be. Fourth floor with no air, and even though a real handyman came and hooked up my AC- this janky building electrical wiring couldn't hack it and it blew out a super circuit. Which means poor Viv has no Fridge and the temp is rising again.
Did I mention the 24 times my car stalled today? Or all the lists of things that never actually got done?
Well. Mercury is indeed in retrograde folks. Thanks for letting me have my official rant.
I'm off to Portland in 2.5 hours...wish me luck.
the ever fascinating Miranda July is in the new Blonde Redhead video (directed by her boyfriend mike mills)
Notice she is wearing her vinnyandvernelle hair clip from the show pony shop.
If you want to make your hairdoo happy, get a new fancy clip on their etsy site or at the show pony.
