fancy glancy

100_3458

Don't tell a soul, but Mr. C.Glancy is officially a year older.
The man behind the Monument Snowboard deal, and photographer whiz had a birthday party (on a Monday night) that filled the BAR.

the evening involved some drinks, some dancing and meeting up with some old friends I haven't seen in a long time. Overall we learned two things that night, Glancy is popular, and The Bar seems to bring out the worst in Fran and I. Scheid was bummed that I didn't give him the head's up that Glancy was a fashion photographer. Cause where there's a photographer there has to be a gang of models.

running down a dream

100_3320

Yesterday while working at the shop my friend Annakim called and invited me to the Troubadour to see her dad play. The show was going to mark the 30 year anniversary and reunion of his old band, and was set to be a big deal! As the sun was setting, we ladies climbed into her hybrid wagon of wares. (she has a stuffed taxidermy back there, a huge butterfly kite, a beaded dragon etc...) We were excited and the warm air outside was sort of perfectly magical.100_3321

mindy wearing a glitter jumpsuit and her new beaded shrimp necklace
100_3323

the smaller venue was very cozy and seemed like the audience was filled with family and ultimate fans
100_3325

we all danced wildly to the music, obviously annakim more so than others. She was gyrating enough to shake the balcony and screaming FREE BIRD at times.
100_3333

100_3335

for the record, you are not allowed to take pics at the shows nor have a camera. So that's why these are dark and sneaky

The shows continue this week (6 in a row all SOLD OUT) pretty amazing. If you can still find a ticket it's worth it. Lots of pretty country psychedelic songs and witty between song banter. Plus some rad Dylan covers! 060724_tompetty_vmed_10awidec

After the show we somehow ended up at Crazy Girls. Where you also are not permitted to take pics.

annakim requested ACDC and proceeded to upstage some of the ladies at work. She said she would like to do an amateur night there. We made some fast friends and then headed off to the 101 Cafe for late night food

Ode to the Odalisque

Sure, he isn't a concubine or a harem mistress, but this cat has his relax pose down pat. I mean he resembles one of those classic paintings of the reclining curvy ladies. By popular demand I decided to post a Georgie Boy update. (Down at the local coffee shop today some fans of Mr. Boo Boo-licious said they need some more Georgie Boy posts and less fashion)

This couture fashion spread was featured in April 2008 UK VOGUE, with model Karen Elson and my favorite photographer TIM WALKER! As you all know I have much love for Puppets, so this is up my alley. Although I saw this last month, it still lingered in my mind- so I decided to share it. I love all of his surreal settings and soft dreamy lighting.

Flapper-thon

This weekend was a blur. A blur of colors and crazy. I like having a bunch of girl friends who like to get dolled up and go out dancing, and stay out til the sun comes up. ( Really trashy flappers) We had an insane adventure and I apologize that I neglected to post sooner. Sleep was crucial to my survival. These are the shots I promised from the store of the feathers. And a few of my pals the day after.

Also this weekend: The Debut of Organic HOMEMADE PIZZA! Delmore-LICIOUS. Viv and Matt have decided that the folks in the building deserve to taste their incredible handmade pies. So for those working and living in the building, we LUCK out! Finally real food delivered to your door/store. Only on the weekends for now. Check out the 4rd FLoor special that Annakim is eating. That's not a typo, my floor was painted way back and they misspelled 4th as 4rd-after the 3rd was done.
This is her reaction when I told her she couldn't eat the whole thing by herself. She tore into slice after slice

100_3132

Those feather clips and hats by Laura Kranitz that everyone falls in love with, are back on the shelves at SHOW PONY. This batch is truly to die for. Seems like the master artisan has upped her game and created shapes and styles that seem to take hours of dedicated love.
This pile on the floor doesn't do them justice, I'm waiting for the right head to feature them. My favorite is the crown peacock and the long dangle peacock comb. I will post separate images of them tomorrow when I find a hair model. (or as I like to say, Brittzy!)
Anyway if you have been
a.) feeling dumpy
b.) feeling like your skin has broken out
c.) gained weight?
d. all of the above

These clips are so outrageously gorgeous that no one will even remember you have a face, or body for that matter. It's all about that clip baby

Speaking of being influenced by the OUTER LIMITS and just landing from another dimension-
The April 2008 issue of HARPER's Bazaar is pretty fabulous. There is an article on Ossie Clark and Celia Birtwell, a spread on ethnic fashion, a spread on avant garde dresses, fantasy fringes, 70's blissed out folk craft wear, and more bohemian rhapsody. I don't have a scanner but photographed these from the issue so you can share in my excitement.

WOW, according to an email I received earlier today, Trendcentral reported today that I'm an "artist to watch". Isn't that super nice? I guess that I need to hurry up and get this artist studio back in tip top shape and get back to the drawing board.

Here's the actual clip from it:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kime Buzzelli: Among a certain crowd of bohemian cool girls in LA (and elsewhere due to the popularity of her excellent blog, The Moldy Doily, Kime Buzzelli is an icon. In addition to having some of the best style in town and selling covetable wares at her pioneering Echo Park boutique Show Pony (recently remodeled), 38-year-old Buzzelli is also a brilliant painter. Although she is inspired by fashion models, Buzzelli's dreamy, colorful works that feature psychedelic flapper gypsy hippie girls are so much more exciting than the photo editorial of any magazine. And we're not the only ones who think so: Vans tapped her to design a line of clothes and shoes that will be released next year.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heads up to my sweet blog world fans who read this and always make my day with comments (you know who you are) I really appreciate you die hard darlings.

I'm gonna post some art for sale later today- around 6p.m. west coast time- so keep a lookout

electro-cuties

L_6101779bb2d9f4912514c2c123694ced(photo jeaneenlund.com)

This past Tuesday my friend Jeaneen asked me to be in a music video that she was going to shoot featuring the band Electrocute. If you haven't heard of ELECTROCUTE yet, you will. It's a Los Angeles based electronic rock 'n' roll band. Nicole Morier from Albuquerque and Mindy aka Legs Le Brock from Sydney, Australia.
They are the hottest little duo and just finished putting out a new album that can be found on the new "21" movie soundtrack. They've been playing their new song on 103.1 here in L.A.

My pal Jeaneen normally takes photographs, so this was her big debut into filming. Knowing what an incredible eye she has, I contemplated helping out... but then she informed me I would have to be topless with glitter pasties and a giant fabric shrimp on my head. Considering the lovely ladies in the band are like super models, I would hate to upstage them with my scar and muffin top (and a giant shrimp head)

So Of course my pal Annakim got dolled up for the video. She said it's going to be amazing when it's done being edited.
Mindy "Legs" LeBrock one of the band members lives practically next door and makes clothes for SHOW PONY. They are under her rad label Legs PALACE. Look at how stylish and amazing they are: (p.s. notice the word cute after electro)

I'm not no limburger

When I was in junior high someone gave me the B52-s album Whammy for my birthday. After that I went and bought the WILD PLANET record, and would sit in my room and play them over and over. I know it's not for everybody. But I would dance this mess around in my room and drive my dad crazy. I think it was always their strange choice of lyrics that made me like them. "Come here you little butterbean" and in the song Give me Back my man...
I'll give you fish,
I'll give you candy,
I'll give you everything I have in my hand.

(WHAT? I'll give you fish and candy? Since when was that a surefire man trap)
I had no idea that they were actually playing in the late 70's, I had always thought of them as a new wave 80's band. Anyway, in my nostalgia week of cleaning my space and digging through my records, I thought I would share these.

Click on this awesome link to DANCE This MESS AROUND in BLACK and WHITE from 1978! The user disabled the embedded content, but you must watch this version, PLEASE:

Bizarre lyrics for Dance this mess around include:

Remember when you held my hand
Remember when you were my man
Walk talk in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over, think it over
Roll it over in your mind
Why don't you dance with me
I'm not no Limburger

Guess who is 99 years old today? That's right- UNCLE LOU. He has reached the edge of a century. Almost 100 years old, think of all that his eyes have witnessed. When I called him this morning to wish him a good one, he picked up on the first ring. He's still as spunky as ever. He asked me how I've been, told me that he is waiting for his walk and said he is still hitting golf balls over at the range. WOW. Keep moving must be the answer. When he asked what else I've been doing and I mentioned the store remodel, he said "that's never easy, cause those workers take forever!" Didn't have the heart to tell him we were the workers. As the conversation neared an end, I found myself slowly forming tears. I think that I was so amazed that he answered with such gusto, and just being able to know someone who is almost 100 tugs on my emotional side. Eat some cake in honor of the man

Ouch, my head.

100_2985
100_3012

Last night was my old friend Ravi's birthday. We have been pals for a long time. His friend offered up his luxurious pad in the Hills to host a last minute dance party. So Cynthia and I fetched some records and we drove up to the land of the rich. The view was insane! Imagine a panoramic sky view of the entire lit up city, pushed up beyond the deep backyard and palm trees. The 60's style home had an entire glass window back, and a full stacked bar. Which will later bring up a few regrets.
The decor was beyond minimal. I may have to apprentice under this guy and see how it is possible to have a shelf with NOTHING on it. I mean, it that possible? Where does the mail go?

100_2996

After dancing til about 2:30, we all ended up in the jacuzzi. Not sure how I was coerced in there, but glad I was. That lasted til about 4. *Also not recommended, unless you want to feel flush and dizzy.
Considering I had stopped eating at about 1 p.m. earlier that day, I was ready for some bed. But no, party time Cynthia and birthday boy begged "more dance party"

So then we all ended up on awesome patio furniture staring at the stars for some more hours. Enter the potato chips. At about 5:30, Fran begged us to leave, she had to wake up and cut someone's hair by 9 a.m. We crept down the Hollywood Hills toward home and ran into a few coyotes on the prowl. Did I mention that the sun was already coming up. Ouch, my head.

the girl can't help it

100_2777

Once again, I am posting on my favorite ebay model. I couldn't help it, I had to post a pile of pictures of her and her tough poses. I wonder where this seller is digging up these super rad Avant Garde hooded coats from the 80's. Doesn't everyone need at least one spy coat, a sexy snoopy t-shirt dress, a drapey massive plaid poncho, and an acid wash jumper? I'm not creepy, I just grew up drawing fashion poses from magazines and when I see someone who can contort like the best of them ie: kate moss, I get inspired.
Besides some of these strange jackets look like something from the back of a M. Margiella or V. Westwood closet.

Here's the low down on the man behind the craft

HISTORY: Established in San Francisco during the summer of 2001 by Romulus Von Stezelberger, South Paradiso Leather is currently one of the only existing leather crafters entirely dedicated to the sadly forgotten principals of true old-world craftsmanship, making clothing of only the highest possible quality, such as only can be done on a small scale with great attention payed to each individual piece made. Each one-of-a-kind item is carefully hand-made by South Paradiso's small team of specialists, with a big tip of the hat to Von Stezelberger's primary inspiration, the legendary San Francisco leather designers, East West Musical Instrument Company. Thirty to thirty-five years ago, East West, under the direction of its founder, Norman Stubbs, was arguably the most innovative leather clothing maker of all time. Known for for painstakingly detail and impeccable craftsmanship, East-West's now-rare and highly collectible hand-made pieces are today regarded as the Holy Grail of rock and roll fashion, not only for vintage clothing collectors, but for all those who appreciate the truly artistic in clothing design. Today this sort of quality has all but vanished from the fashion world, in which designer logos and price tags are more important than design or beauty. It is South Paradiso Leather's mission to bring art back to fashion, by picking up where East-West left off, using only the finest (and most expensive) materials, and the most skilled (and most expensive) artisans to create each one-of-a-kind jacket, belt, pant, bag, hat, wallet, necklace, bracelet, and shoe. Von Stezelberger's love of East-West has driven him to assemble the world's largest collection of the rarest East-West originals, and has also brought him into contact with many of the original team who made these works of art in the 1970's, includung East-West founder and mastermind, Norman Stubbs, who has given South Paradiso his enthusiastic blessings. Several of these talented personalities have offered Von Stezelberger their services, both in their unmatched leather-crafting know-how, and in offering some of their original East-West patterns and designs, some of which South Paradiso now reverently recreates, or in some cases makes for the first time since only a single prototype was made in the '70's. But in no way is South Paradiso simply an imitator. Though he, like any artist, pays due homage to his heroes, Von Stezelberger's artistic vision has taken creative leather design and quality craftsmanship to a level that even East-West could not have reached, with new designs being created almost daily, many with intricate applique, custom paintings, and stunning colors and textures. Now based in Los Angeles, South Paradsio Leather is rapidly becoming legendary in its own right, with pieces being sold in the most prestigious shops and boutiques around the world.
