This past Saturday my friend Fran called to tell me she saw an interesting sign on the way to work. It said " ANTIQUES ART SMUT" Hmmm. Smut. the word means: Sexually vulgar material; something that is sexual in a dirty way. Tis true that little four letter word carries a lot of "dirty". So David and I ventured up there, and the house delivered. The view from the top of the hill was amazing and all of the built ins and stained glass were lovely and crafty. IT was a pretty class act. Tons and tons of pastel portraits of lovely voluptuous ladies in the 50's. Boxes of doilies, textiles, nudie postcards, and gadgets (crystal doorknobs etc...)that would make any collector swoon. I immediately ran over to a bookshelf adorned with creepy pastel portraits, presumably old film stars and snatched them up. Something about them reminded me of Elizabeth Peyton's style. Click on them to see all of the picture these are some of the cool old pics I scored too...some are risque so don't BLUSH here's the man behind the house: and the crazy poetry book he wouldn't part with, for any price... Fran got this crazy king kong nudie pic who do you call to join you at a bonanza sale like this? Mr. J.T. the collector of postcards and doilies do you like old knives, doorknobs, rifles, tiffany lamps and 1920's painted hangtags? I scored some sweet old flapper dinner tags. So cute! The sale was going on til 1:00 a.m. and some of other pals got some cool loot I found out that the photographer of these used to take all these so that he could later paint them. He seems to like girls sitting on things, like food and stuffed animals. Strange fetish?
