WOW, another year.

A whole year since this...

I feel bionic.  I survived a pretty rough year.  A major surgery, a major breakup and WOW- I've feel like I've been rebuilt.   I am so grateful for my friends, my blog readers, and all of the beautiful things that have happened the rest of this year to put me back in survival mode.

Taylor was invited to a costume party this past Saturday, and called me in a panic to see if I could be part of her costume.  Seems her last minute costume decision needed a cohort in crime.  So I had about an hour to channel Lohan to her Ronson.

We started off the evening checking out the new art show at SHOW CAVE!  IT was super rad- scary monsters and stuff.  The show is titled:

Lisa and Cynthia pretended to be the clipboard door girl for the exclusive green room.  Cynth was a supreme groupie.  Well actually she arrived at the party sans costume, because they came straight from an event

after the party we ended up at Garage pizza for late night slices.  It's our new favorite late night spot.

magic*vampire*zombie*love-in

I had one of those strange days, where everything seems surreal.  Perhaps it's the wickedly hot weather that's still abundant for  L.A. this October, or the way the days seem to blend right into the next.  But none of these excuses prepared me for the craziness that awaited when I arrived at Glamityville.  Seems that a photo shoot by pal maximilla was underway , complete with a rabbit in a hat and mystical makeup and backdrops.  Did I mention that a man in a turban seems so "Vogue"?  These are just behind the scenes shots...the real photographs from the shoot are a million times more incredible.

On our way home from visiting Viv at U.C.L.A. hospital (she had her healthy baby BOY!) Cynthia and I drove down Sunset into the land of STAR MAPS and rich people shopping on Rodeo Drive.

We passed this creepy cobblestone house on a hill decked out for Halloween.

A white picket Ghost fence and stuffed scarecrows everywhere.  We definitely trespassed a little to get close to the good stuff.  As the sun was setting the hanging ghosts with shredded bottoms were really pretty. 

Don't forget they are screening CARRIE in the cemetery here in L.A. on sat. Oct 25th! YAY!

The other night, the ladies of the DELMORE apt building decided to show out on sunday in numbers. The band WE ARE THE WORLD (members former residents of the apt building) were playing.  For those who've never seen one of their shows- it involves a lot of costumes with insane dance choreography.  

After an all day sidewalk sale (involving some major trades and swaps) and a pre-birthday pedicure from Cynthia (notice my green toes closely)...We were looking for trouble.

Earlier in the day I snapped these of the trashy flappers in training:

this shot was taken a few days before, after me and taylor forced the neighbor to watch an episode of Vh1's Pick-up artist.  (that show has me hooked- can't look away- like a car crash)  We then decided to apply some of "Mystery's" sure-fire pickup strategies on the crowd at the Cha Cha.  We showed up early and snagged a booth and then proceeded to creep out all the customers with our aggressive moves.  I ended up getting a Glendale Galleria type who asked for my number.  First he told me he liked art.  Especially Van Gogh, and his "night of stars" painting.  I told him I thought it was "starry night" he may be referring to.  Anyway, we successfully managed to max out my tab while discussing the many ways in the future we plan to scam money.  My new look?  Grifters all the way.  You can hide a lot of loot in a trench coat.

Rule number #1  You can't grift a grifter.  Or as my dad likes to say in Mr. Brady speak "you can't fool the fiddler"

it ain't easy being this cute on a daily basis.  I just finished watching a few hours of animal planet (the humane society investigators who save animals from bad situations) Besides reducing me to tears, it made me grateful that I located Georgie from the high kill shelter before his cuteness was put to sleep, HE MUST be cloned.

Thank God, I ended up with this guy instead of that other one

If any of you think you can create a new artist statement for me that doesn't make me blush or cringe, please let me know. Those things should really just say this Kime Buzzelli makes art, because she really isn't good at anything else other than that she is sort of a lazy slob who likes to sample various pizza slices around town kime buzzelli/juxtapoz!

6.  Once while shopping at a Vintage Expo, Diane Keaton came up to me and said that she loved my outfit and that I had darling boots and style!  (In high school, I went through a very serious Annie Hall period, where I wore most of my father's clothes- lots of Pretty in pink vests -you get the picture)

I received this invite last week, too bad I'm not in Sweden (where the show is).  I adore Ms. Sinclair's work ever since we were in a group show together at New Image Art Gallery.  We got to meet while in Miami last year, she looks as striking as her pretty paintings on birch.

LOYAL is proud to present EYES FOR NO ONE, a new group of paintings by New York 
based artist SUZANNAH SINCLAIR. 

There is a captivating emotion in these elegant watercolor on birch-panel paintings
of female figures. The portraits reveal much more than the physical in a look or
a gaze. Personal yet with an untouchable mystique, the figures are always alone 
and in intimate poses. Sad, proud, hopeful, exasperated, a range of human sentiment
is transfered. The matter-of-fact nakedness of the subjects tends toward confrontational
and examines whether we are more comfortable with the sexual than with the emotional.
The consistency of Sinclair’s style of portraiture brings to mind the haunting and
alluring portrait photography of Horst P. Horst, who said about his photograph "Odalisque",
New York 1943, "I don’t know how I did it. I couldn’t repeat it. It was created
by emotion."

One of my favorite drawing muses has chopped new bangs and is gracing the pages of a bunch of new Fall fashion mags.  Gap toothed smile pout, pizzazz!

Surreal deal

Fashion week in L.A. has once more snuck up without much fanfare.  Of course the people over at GEN ART are always an exception.  They support new up and coming artists, designers and filmmakers.  This past week we attended to support Laura Kranitz and her FAB head pieces.  Our girl is all grows'dup.  She has been a big seller at my shop Show Pony for ever!  Finally her ideas are about to get the boost they need in the mainstream markets.

YAY! ran into my old pal Matthew there.  He was wearing a new Society for Rational Dress Knit SWEATER that I fell in love with.  In fact it seems like the perfect item for every single girl who'd rather cozy up to a knit super size sweater instead of snag a winter boyfriend.

Oh Lordy, the levels of cuteness have been raised.  I swear, just when I think he has mastered the ultimate in cuteness, he somehow serves me a side of new tenderness.  Georgie Boy is currently staring at me with the evil stink eye.  That is because I just showered, applied makeup and am perfumed and ready to go out.  My friends are on their way, and he knows exactly what all that means.

He has been doing this new "tucking" thing, where he curls his entire body into a round ball and his head practically upside down.

I have to clone him, or least dress up as him for halloween so I can score with the boys

Lemon Chiffon and other edibles

Strawberry Shortcake and Lemon Chiffon don't have a thing on Galliano's latest collection.  He has once again lifted my spirits with sugarcoated faces and exploding palettes.  I just wanted to repost these in case some of you were unable to see them (perhaps the santa ana winds? The mercury retrograde? )  I can't wait to see how spying these Galliano girls will leave an imprint on my brain & inspire my latest art.

  

WOW wunderkind!

Design label WONDERKIND really brought the spring in Spring 09.  I love the painterly floral prints and the layers of chiffon. I feel like the polkadots really make me wanna walk around in military boots and a turban.  Huh?  Just sayin'. The designer said his frame of reference was the sculptor/architect Isamu Noguchi and pre- and postwar Japan.

I was curled up in a sad position on my bed earlier this afternoon, when Annakim called and told me I better come by.  I insisted that I was incapable of motion, but she persisted.  When I arrived, a whole crew was over her place shooting a super psychedelic clothing look book for a friend's new line.  The clothes were breathtaking and awe-inspiring and I can't wait til they hit the racks.  People are going to swoon.

They're like the love-child of Zandra Rhodes and a silent screen star made someplace on a cloud on France circa 70's.

In the best interest of the designer, I didn't reveal the images of her clothes- but shot the ladies mostly while changing and lounging around.

She also scored this vintage chiffon flapper 20's dress!  Anyone who really knows me, knows that I adore weird pods and poms on costumes

Our pal Victoria sold this electric BLUE dress on Ebay, and wanted to shoot it before she mailed it off.  It's precious!

I left just as the sunset highlighted the palm trees from my window.  It reminded me how the simplest things in this city make me happy.  Like sparkle eyes and printed tights

i'll be your mirror

Sonia Rykiel has always amazed me!  Her style, her stripes, her attitude, her amazing designs, WOW, she's a true source of inspiration for many.  Her 40 years in the fashion industry were recently marked with a powerhouse runway show combined with a surprise birthday party .  Her daughter contacted designers in the industry to create a birthday outfit inspired by her mother for the end of the runway show!  How FAB, right?  So all kinds of people participated and made things in the likeness of her style.  Here's some of the favorites:

another saturday

The Show Pony had it's 97th opening this weekend.  To say that is was quiet was sort of an understatement.  The L.A. weather that day was grey and strange and slightly rainy.  There were a million parties and street musical festivals going on, and to be honest I was happy that is was sweet and slow.  

I had a few friends pass through, like my lil pal Vinca...who is really growing up fast. After the opening David, Taylor and I went out to eat- David ordered an impressive dough blob Profiterole spread.  I've been in sort of a strange fog lately. Maybe that my life is changing again and old chapters are ending and new things are beginning.  Something about that always scares me.

gonna miss you Lou

Just 3 days ago while  walking /running around Echo Park Lake, I thought about Uncle Lou.  I wondered how a 99 year old man still managed to walk 2 miles and hit golf balls.  It's taken me weeks of activity to manage running 2 miles around the lake.  I passed two men (probably in their 80's and very much like the Odd Couple) who were walking and arguing.  And I realized that "living" is what keeps you living.  It just takes moments of action and movement forward that propels you to keep moving forward.  

I then thought about his obsession with dining at Norm's.  All of the Sunday's we spent meeting him for meals and later trips to Ralphs for his orange drinks.  He wasn't even my 99 year uncle, but he had become part of my strange L.A. family of friends.  I spent two or three of my L.A. Thanksgiving dinners with him, once at an Italian Restaurant where he conned us into ordering a house wine and finishing it all off. 

 He loved hanging with me and my lady friends.  I can't say he was taken away too soon.  He was nearly a CENTURY- in fact only 6 months from it!  He didn't leave any children behind, and I'm sure is going to meet up with his lovely Vaudeville wife who passed decades before him.  It seems lucky to me that he parted this place on the same day as Paul Newman.  Great company for golf outings and perhaps an upgrade on the salad.  He will be in the best cemetery in the city.  Over in Westwood with Marilyn Monroe, Natalie Wood, John Cassavetes, Don Knotts, walter matheau, Dorothy Stratten, Dean Martin, Rodney Dangerfield...the list goes on.

Here's to living the longest life you can.  To staying in the game til way past overtime.  He never looked a day over 79 and I will never tire of waiting with breathless anticipation to hear:

"I'll have the herb-roasted chicken, lentil soup- make sure it's HOT, and the caesar salad hold the croutons."

all shallow deep

The new Blank Blue video (band is Elvin a.k.a. d.J. nobody and Nik-alotta has just come out.  The psychedelic sounds of Blank-blue make them a nice dreamy soundtrack for Cali living.  There video also features some of my artwork towards the end!  I'm so  excited to be a part of it.  My friends Hashim and Akiko created the pretty video.   Here's a lil synopsis for the concept:

blank blue is the surreal story of an armageddon born out of a massive earthquake off the west coast of the united states and set sometime in the future. the quake triggers a separation of the west from the rest of the country, creating a whirlpool of devastation in its wake. millions die. thousands survive. those that survive eventually sink and drown from the buckling lands, only to have scores of poison mushrooms waiting for them underneath the earth's masses, loosened from centuries old trees. the poisoned water gives them their first gasp, and miraculously they are able to and breathe and live underwater. the confusion and sadness is balanced by the fascination of having to start everything all over again.

Remember this piece of eye candy?  That's right, the darling dress with the sweet story attached?  You may remember how I wore it last year  to my birthday party (two weeks after my surgery) ? HELLO October!

Yipppee!

The first day of my favorite month.  Although here in L.A. the weather remains scorching.  I swear it was near 100 degrees in my place.  But regardless, October means FALL is really here.  Pumpkins, darkness sooner, costumes, crisp leaves, a year of good health since my surgery, and at the end of the month another year older!

Also anticipating the birth of my pal Orchide's new baby.  He's due anyday.  Her feet are the size melons.

Thought this new editiorial in Italian VOGUE reminded me of the Red Balloon 60's film and her hair like pumpkin pie.

Want to also add that I appreciate all of the COOL comments that you all have left lately on the doily.  I've been in a blur of activity but on the verge of getting to finally get back to work in my brand new ART space!

Viv-ster does it again

There's something about the plastic taffy like tied up dresses, the sparkle weird tie front pants, the colorform cutout dresses and paper doily like wraps that makes Vivienne Westwood's new stuff- so "her"
