Guess who turned a whole new age? That's right...Annakim Violette. Seems like every year her birthday makeup tops the year before. So many festive faces and gypsy gowns have been documented here over the years. This year her birthday was a lovely rainy winter day. Tons of friends came out to wish her well -as she psychedelically transports into another year older. She had a snake cake and lots of treats. Bummer for me it was on a Sunday- which is now a Work night for me- considering I often have to wake up at the break of dawn (yes folks- it is usually still dark when I am getting ready)
Heartstring Symphony singer- Heather Porcaro and her fiance! when we got home we were both super tired and loopy and took these funny hair pics
It's almost T.V. land break time soon. Then we are on to visiting our families for a bit, going to HAWAII! WOW we are getting MARRIED soon! Lots of stuff to plan and do before then.
Finally! I decided to start posting some of my vintage and designer wares on ebay! I have been so lazy since moving, and am excited to have my new art space to spread out and see all the lovely things in boxes that I want to sell. There are so many things that it should take me months and months to unload. I realized after way too many episodes of Hoarders that I don't need to covet all the pretty things, I need to share some of them with new cohorts. Posted here are some of the new listings and some of the ones that I will be listing shortly. Above: pale blue 1930's floral sheer flapper dress.Below: 70's Exotic flower dress and MIU MIU cat eye sunglasses
Above: the most darling 1940's Burlesque suit with metallic silver thread stitching and rhinestone details! So much prettier in person
New Year's Eve started with a spicy Szechuan Chinese Dinner. So many plates of hot and molten peppercorn dishes! Our faces were red, mouths on fire...and loopy from the spice.
We spent New Year's Eve the same way we want to spend the rest of the year, laughing and eating and joking around. Somehow after these photos were taken we managed to drink wine (on top of all that spicy food) and I gave him a new haircut with rusty old dull scissors. I didn't think it turned out half bad considering I have zero skills in the styling dept. He seemed to think that I was trying to make him look more like Jim from "The Office". Hey that's never a terrible thing. For old times sake I made him watch the ball drop with Dick Clark. Spending an evening at home instead of going out might make us old timey, but we don't mind. I am ready to ease into a new year without a hangover.
They say often that two people who have never met, in different parts of the world...can be making the same things or inspired by the same creative impulses. I discovered this girl's goods today on Etsy and was surprised that she creates things much like my good pal Laura Kranitz . I like the use of layered colors and these belted corset wraps. You can find more of these items HERE
I'm glad that my current job prohibits me from all this online shopping and searching for things I really do not need. I was seconds away from owning this Turkish carpet bag purse. I found it divine. I already pictured myself lovingly putting all my precious beauty supplies inside. "it can fit a nice notebook" I told myself. I waited a whole day, and to my surprise some other impatient lady scored it. Thankfully I dodged spending more money this holiday season. Idle hands will tap at keys and purchase all sort of things that are frivolous. You would think that exhausting move and purging of things would have taught me a valuable lesson, but alas "NO".
oh the gypsy rings call out to me, why why why
I would never wear a shawl, but am always drawn to colored silk fringe
I would never carry this purse and yet I liked how way back Whiting and Davis made a graffiti style 80's bag in the flapper days
with the resurrection of these vintage leopard coats everywhere, something from my riot girl art school heyday comes over me. Back in Ohio I used to score one of these every other week
not sure which is creepier, a weird needlepoint cat pillow
or gold granny boots, nor why I heart them regardless
I love Egyptian stuff and
this insane flapper bag from planet awesome
you may wonder...why the weird gyspy folk dolls? Oh of course I was researching presents for my friend's kid and somehow went from folk toy instruments to this. And I couldn't stop looking at these magnificent gems. Why aren't dolls made with this insane flair today? Why don't all dolls have embroidered boots and wicked painted eyes? If I was ever asked the question "What would you want to be doing if you weren't doing what you are now? Or when you were growing up what did you want to be? I would definitely say- Doll/Puppet maker for sure. I may have missed my true calling.
When I review this post, I am grateful that I A.) do not have more free time starting monday B.) Grateful rent is due today, and the voice of reason C.) glad that my look but DO NOT PURCHASE buttons are in full effect
