I'm supposed to go shopping later this morning with my friend fran.  We are hoping to transform our closets as soon as possible. I still have mountains of boxes in mine and loads of things to sell off.  I have decided to try this "less is more" concept.  My father (massive fashionista male) used to lecture me way back in high school about "quality vs quantity" especially when I would arrive home with bags of thrift clothes.  He was more the Christian Bale American Psycho dresser.  And by that I simply mean he never wore a label-less shirt in his life.

disasters are people too

 I first discovered the lovely and mysterious work of artist Christopher Davison at Miami Art Aqua 2 or 3 years back. I fell in love with everything on the walls at Fette's Gallery (curator/gallery owner who exposed his amazing work).  There was something haunting in the eyes of all his people. Exotic flowers and birds nests cradled in laps, so many hidden places.  Most of all I have always been captivated by his use of color and overlapping of shapes.

We heart Charlotte!

As you all know, one of my all time girl "crushes" is actress Charlotte Gainsbourg (daughter of singer Serge and mum Jane Birken)  Ever since spying her in the movie version of the Cement Garden (my fav Ian McEwan book)...I have loved her voice and her unique London look.  Her sister is also a favorite fashion muse- Lou Doillon.  Both have such exotic carefree good style.  My boyfriend/fiance bought the double vinyl record by Charlotte G. for Valentine's Day as well as a stereo to hook into my portable record player so I can blast the new songs loud.  We made our entry room into a dance floor and put a sweet shelf of all my vinyl against the wall.  Perfect listening or reading station for our friends. Anyway- YOU MUST take a listen to this new album, somewhat reminiscent of Cat Power, Beck (who produced and wrote most of the songs) and french dreamy girly electronic vocals.

 Los Angeles weather was so amazing on Valentine's Day. We got slightly sunburn walking around the market.  So lucky to live here with perpetual sunshine!

 Mr. H has not only popped the question, but delivered the best everlasting ring!  WOW, can't believe this gypsy ring is on my hand.  Even though we have no idea when we will get hitched, it's pretty mesmerizing to glance down at this sparkling thing (knowing it's from the early 1800's and survived many many years) All of my fab friends have been sending me awesome links to cool wedding sites and blogs.  The t.v. show I am working on will wrap this week and go on hiatus and then I will finally have a chance to breathe, take it all in, relax, blog more often and unpack.  Then hopefully take long walks (praying for more sunshine) and plan for fun springtime adventures.

 
 this style of ring is from the Georgian period- a little back story on that influence: Unlike jewelry of the Victorian and later periods, Georgian jewelry always involves some hand-craftsmanship on the part of the lapidaries of the era. These jewels were made before the Industrial Revolution of the 1840s, and the crafting of pieces were very labor-intensive.

It is not unusual to see tool marks on the backs and findings of Georgian jewels, and all of the stones,  were set by hand.

The Georgian Era was from 1714 until 1836. This era of time was named after England’s kings, George I, II, & III. During this time period, the aristocratic and wealthy people wore all kinds of jewels and this practice was not reserved for the ladies only.
