art on you, cause the painting is better worn

Sometimes when you daydream things pop up like pretty paintings. Especially things you will never own or perhaps touch. But in the event that you may strike it big, rob a bank, discover buried treasure, or land a sugar daddy...may I suggest the power of Net-a-Porter

thanks for the palette

20 I am almost done drawing my intergalactic space-travel graphic novel for Zune!  I have spent so many days sitting upright at my table that my back has collapsed and my eyes are pink.  I have consumed a dixie cup of water and on the few occasions I have been able to sleep for more than 4 hours, I have dreamed about ways to color the panels more efficiently.  I have saw my hand moving across the page coloring in every piece.  It's weird.  I can't imagine working a job on the stock market, I'm sure those guys go home and see floating numbers over and over.
I apologize for the lack of posts, and will promise to resume my normal pace after this weekend.  I need to tend to some much needed laundry and cleanup first.
I will post a few sneak peaks on Sunday for those of you who are curious as to how I drew my characters.  as for now, and still on the Super Hero Color kick...I wanted to share this rad inspirational clothing line called "cneeon". They design with a wild colorful palette that makes me want to get right back at the drawing table after this job.
02
I think they are from Berlin?  Not sure but love their concepts and colors and radical backdrops.  This latest line was influenced by this:

Summer. Winter.
Winter is harder. Not because it is actually cold. It
was cold before. In the past. There was snow which loomed in the streets, there were icy sidewalks, on which in the morning we’d throw our ashes. Ashes which only yesterday was still coal, coal to heat our rooms.

Now, the winter is mild. But that does not make it any better. Winters are still hard. We rise to the neon light of the morning subway ride – because the sunlight is still missing.

I have been told of a small country is not far from here, which celebrates the return of the migrating birds. The children there dress up as birds and play "Bird Wedding". The Magpie marries the Raven. This is not done in the spring, but rather in the middle of winter. Optimists, I guess. And why not us? Take the cap off your head, move it onto your neck! Your scarf was not made to warm your neck, but for the wind to blow! Go and tie it to your jacket!

MUSE

Bought this new magazine MUSE the other day. It's cover says Return to Innocence and focuses on FASHIONART. There are stories on artists David HAmilton, Louise Bourgeois, and more. Too bad it's mostly presented in non-English. Anyway, liked some of these shots and thought I'd share

bad girl and cat queen

Even though the Italian Vogue has been on the shelves for a little bit, the Meisel photo spread (literally spread) has been stirring up some controversial comments. The cover features actress Eva Mendes, and the inside has Steven Meisel's fashion shoot with her in bondage Sophia Loren get ups straight outta Madonna's SEX book. I have to admit I thought some of them were pretty shocking considering Mendes is the model. (I didn't include the one of her swallowing her own foot)

I personally thought they were pretty interesting and sexy to boot. I mean, what's a girl to do straight out of rehab? Of course, EMBRACE your bad girl persona and go for broke. Maybe it's my voyeuristic quality (I in fact am quite shy, therefore like witnessing the car crash of other people's overt sexual come-hither stance)

Anyway, I find it most funny that Kutmah went to high school with her. He said she was a popular cheerleader who everyone called "cindy crawford" because she was not only gorgeous but had the mole.
She recently was quoted in a tabloid story with other actresses saying that she was a geeky teen and very awkward. Not according to the yearbook Kutmah has. She looks saucy.08

Although I saw this last month, it still lingered in my mind- so I decided to share it. I love all of his surreal settings and soft dreamy lighting.

Here's the low down on the man behind the craft

HISTORY: Established in San Francisco during the summer of 2001 by Romulus Von Stezelberger, South Paradiso Leather is currently one of the only existing leather crafters entirely dedicated to the sadly forgotten principals of true old-world craftsmanship, making clothing of only the highest possible quality, such as only can be done on a small scale with great attention payed to each individual piece made. Each one-of-a-kind item is carefully hand-made by South Paradiso's small team of specialists, with a big tip of the hat to Von Stezelberger's primary inspiration, the legendary San Francisco leather designers, East West Musical Instrument Company. Thirty to thirty-five years ago, East West, under the direction of its founder, Norman Stubbs, was arguably the most innovative leather clothing maker of all time. Known for for painstakingly detail and impeccable craftsmanship, East-West's now-rare and highly collectible hand-made pieces are today regarded as the Holy Grail of rock and roll fashion, not only for vintage clothing collectors, but for all those who appreciate the truly artistic in clothing design. Today this sort of quality has all but vanished from the fashion world, in which designer logos and price tags are more important than design or beauty. It is South Paradiso Leather's mission to bring art back to fashion, by picking up where East-West left off, using only the finest (and most expensive) materials, and the most skilled (and most expensive) artisans to create each one-of-a-kind jacket, belt, pant, bag, hat, wallet, necklace, bracelet, and shoe. Von Stezelberger's love of East-West has driven him to assemble the world's largest collection of the rarest East-West originals, and has also brought him into contact with many of the original team who made these works of art in the 1970's, includung East-West founder and mastermind, Norman Stubbs, who has given South Paradiso his enthusiastic blessings. Several of these talented personalities have offered Von Stezelberger their services, both in their unmatched leather-crafting know-how, and in offering some of their original East-West patterns and designs, some of which South Paradiso now reverently recreates, or in some cases makes for the first time since only a single prototype was made in the '70's. But in no way is South Paradiso simply an imitator. Though he, like any artist, pays due homage to his heroes, Von Stezelberger's artistic vision has taken creative leather design and quality craftsmanship to a level that even East-West could not have reached, with new designs being created almost daily, many with intricate applique, custom paintings, and stunning colors and textures. Now based in Los Angeles, South Paradsio Leather is rapidly becoming legendary in its own right, with pieces being sold in the most prestigious shops and boutiques around the world. Milan's highly exclusive and influential international showroom, L.A. Distribuzione, proudly represents Von Stezelberger's collection, alongside the likes of Chloe and Diane Von Furstenberg. And all the major stores in Japan (where Von Stezelberger's first collection was sybolically debuted in a highly-publicized show at Tokyo's famous Rocket Art Gallery, rather than via any of the usual fashion venues) are so impressed that some of them have set aside special sections of their stores just for South Paradsio Leather. And here in style-crazed California, East-West lovers, rock musicians, actors, and the general fashion elite have been finding their way to Von Stezelberger's far-out studio, a curious and colorful universe of rare vintage albums, toys, comic books, antique furniture, taxidermy, and leather, where the enigmatic Von Stezelberger, cigar in mouth, and drink in his hand, works out the exacting details of each individual leather outfit, each always guaranteed to blow minds everywhere.

oh, my head

Last night while finishing up assisting a photoshoot and trying to grab my suitcase of props...the hatchback to my friends car crashed down with force on my head. Just like the cartoons, a gigantic raised bump formed while my spinning head tried to make sense of it all.

After the stars in my eyes subsided and the dread of an impending concussion settled, I remembered you must stay awake. So here's the silly scoop on what I found alluring in the wee hours of the a.m.

after that fashion turn, I rounded the corner to the land of Lalique. Rene Lalique was a master deco artisan who created ART nouveau pieces of glass and jewelry that would make anyone's head still spin today. It's simply unbelievable when you look at the details from his drawings to his finished projects. His muse Sarah Bernhardt embodied the art of the Belle Époque. She wore his decorative tiaras and precious pieces and is forever linked to his legacy. Miss Annakim bought one of his retrospective books last week filled with fairytale images.

Galliano: why go out of the house in anything else?

Oh, that's right, the money. I was just suggesting to my friends the other night that we should never leave our apartments without a fun costume. I mean, it always adds a little more color to your evening. Whenever I put on a jumpsuit and heels and a furry trimmed 50's jacket I feel kooky, yet ready to go. It's not always appropriate, but then again who needs to fit in to society anymore? It's outdated. I'd rather be a little Edie in the making, that's Grey Gardens to you. If you splatter your eyes with tons of metallic gold eye makeup and electric strips of color, you are bound to make friends. They may take you on a new adventure. I've seen the power of a wild hat and colorful tights. Anna Piaggi is my superhero. It's like wearing your artistic palette for the world to view.

Ask anyone who has climbed the pile into my closet, "Is there a basic black solid?" You will be hard pressed to find anything. I used to want to trade in my costumes and prints, but after carefully thinking it over these were the pros and cons:

colorful stuff
makes me happy
look silly
draws too much attention to myself
makes me look crazy
usually they are falling apart.missing buttons etc...
Hard to get ready for an uptight affair

Let's get back to mr. John GALLIANO shall we?
who else can combine the magic of POIRET, 50's swimhats, Reggae poof knit caps, BOWIE glam makeup, Kubla KHAN, the dreamy dresses of chiffon and mix them with the all out crazy of a desperate starlet?

Leave it to designer label MISSONI to pour out a collection straight from my palette pages. I know one is supposed to recognize the clothes, the models, but truth be told I am swaying from the colors.
It's all about the combinations and mutations of colors that inspire me to work. The way a bright can be settled by a muddled neutral or fleshy tone. I haven't completely cleared out my work space, but this is cause for an upheaval.

short dark dreams shatter into blinding ecstacy

Couldn't sleep again, and decided to troll around the web for things that matched my mood. It was dark and perhaps mystical. I had one of those days where you are walking and feel a warmth spread across your chest as your heart practically beats til it breaks. A swirling in your stomach that signals no food should enter. I can only say that this Mercury retrograde period has successfully kicked my ass. As the last few days linger and the planet pauses before going direct- I can't imagine what is next. (Do I sound like Annakim now or what? )

I saw this response on an astrology forum to someone questioning this planetary time:

" Eclipses don't take away anything still valid and useful in our lives, only that which obstructs our future growth into a new light. Why not affirm your openness to finding a better, more fulfilling job you could enjoy and learn from? Fear won't get you a new job, but determination and mindfulness with absolute expectation that something better for you personally will attract something good. It always does, if we don't mess up the thoughtform with impatience or fear."

Oh hell, what does it all mean? I need more sleep, Georgie boy needs a girlfriend? By the way I saw a few cute kitties for adoption with names like Sequin, Glitter, DAISY, Sadie, winnie...WOW

I will say that this mysterious mood has seemed to effect some designers as well, who have run off and created gnome couture- mystical ghostly gypsy dresses and creatures from the haunted forest. It's surreal on that runway and those Optical illusion dresses are calling my name. I think wearing one of those with red tights and warpaint might make me feel electric
