I have a new obsession...metallic foil. Sometimes when I discover a new process of creating things I get addicted. This week I learned how to lay down a hint of metallic shimmer on my silkscreened shirts. After you let it cool down- and then peel back...presto magic.
There are the latest things I've made for the holiday rush at Show Pony, let me know if you see something you fancy because there is small supply.

Another ARt show weekend. Six years- every first Saturday- that's a lot of socials.
This weekend the Show Pony featured the art of Lianne Ricci- an artist who creates 60's inspired whimsical Playmate collages.
Nina was looking lovely in her medieval cape and aqua eyeshadow. Her shop had the big debut of the Darling DOLL SHOW.
At Goldmine Garage --Cindy showcased the Rock photography of her sister Lisa Johnson. Lisa has been snapping rockstars since Cindy was a mere mini Lolita. The block was packed because Billy Corrigan of the Smashing Pumpkins was among the party crowd...surrounded by fans.
The next day we staged our infamous X-mas kick off Bake SALE...
Fran and Sandra made gourmet fancy treats-
and Brandy Flower came by with his streetside Silkscreen train--"Hit and Run"
The Folks over at PAPER mag have once again invaded L.A. and presented night after night of lavish wild parties. The ladies of Show Pony were lucky enough to be included in the festivities once again. We decided to make the world a sweeter place- by baking a million cupcakes- (ok- maybe more like 200) and decorating them all fancy with ballerinas-hearts-swans and edible violets and pearls...
Of course the cupcakes that our pal Frannie made were by far the best- which kept the kids coming back for more and more love from the Show Pony Parlor we created there. The all day event was full of FASHION surprises- from an Ashley Paige Doggie adoption auction to a Gareth Pugh metallic silver mylar art explosion that invaded the room and caused couples to roam inside and make out.
We decided to tart ourselves out like a confectionary dream and adorned ourselves in white frills and ruffles topped off with frou frou feather headpieces. Eat me- Drink Me- Love me was the motto of the day and even Britt received a curl job on the hair. Although we were all exhausted, we stayed the entire day and night partying with the crowd- and witnessing fun fashion shows by designers like Brian Lichtenberg- Rodarte--Jeremy Scott- Grey Ant-- Three as Four--Benjamin Cho and of course Gareth Pugh.
Happy to run into a newly Brunette B- and China Chow
By far the coolest cat of the night- from the front and the back too!
Bradley hanging in the house with the best dressed girl of the night
Miss Cynthia's future rock and roll family circus
Photographer Sasha - out in full color
Jessie Camp in stars and stripes
WORK before they performed during the GREY ANT fashion show
Gareth Pugh--and his magical silver clouds
Later we wandered off for Thai food and Carpenters covers...
the lack of sleep combined with the cupcake sugar high began to create an aura of Loopy
Benjamin Cho presented a fashion show where the models were blind/with cane...led by gorgeous men without shirts.
The only problem with this day and night partying-- was that by the time we made it back to Echo PArk and unloaded the cupcake van- it was time to reload for the ROSE BOWL. That's right--4:00 a.m. call time the next day. That wasn't too pretty
This Saturday I found myself stopping at a few yardsales in the neighborhood. I scored a Carole King Tapestry music songbook for the man. The best looking street sale always utiziles the "fashion Tree" as a selling ploy. Who can resist light shining through slips and vintage frocks as they dangle in some branches. I'd probably buy a choir robe if it was hung that way. Miss Nogues and her partner in crime resurrected their $3 dollar Island fence and posed in front of their hectic FASHION tree.
Later that night everyone came by for the SHOW PONY art Block Party.
This opening Sandra made carmel apples and peanut butter stuffed cupcakes with pandas
one of my MOD girl pillows
We showed some drawings and paintings of friends....Ryan --Umar and few of mine. We cleaned up the shop and rearranged all the furniture- again.
Here's feather hat maker Stacy wearing one of her creations
Sunday, I ran into neighbor Wiley- who told me all about his Reindeer pants and stickers (*Note the big one says :DOES NOT CONTAIN SPINACH)
Later Sunday night- G.P. and I took Uncle Lou out for dinner (yes of course it was Norms)
where he proceeded to tell us that he heard on the radio that STARBUCKS coffee houses are really brothels. He said it must be true cause it was on the radio. We asked if the men pay the Starbucks counter or the women. He said that there is no paying- the women just come in and pick out a man they go to her house and have sex and then she kicks him right out. That's how it is done. Hmmm
G.P. does frequent those places quite often....
Anyway- if true perhaps they should change the name to StarFucks. Just kidding. He is 97- and for all we know he was listening to Howard Stern. He also just bought a giant package of Jalapeno peppers cause he thought they were string beans. Hate to think how he figured that out.
Afterwards we went to see Running With Scissors. The art direction was super cool- as were the costumes. But....perhaps the film proved a little too "cool" for me. If films go the direction of uber Quirky sometimes I get lost doubting every move. Don't get me wrong all the actors have strong performances-especially Annette B. But eventually I was slightly bored and the only saving graces were the cool 70's necklaces and exotic wallpapers. Most of the necklaces looked a lil something like this...
This SAturday-OCT 7th-- the Show Pony Boutique presents the wonderful WILL LEMON III and his artful surprises. He has just returned from England and will be showing tapestries, mystical Sweatshirts, and folk-gypsy dungeon woodblock prints. You may have seen his dazzling designs in magazines featuring musical artists Devendra Banhart- Entrance, and Coco Rosie girls. Will weaves organic vines and flowers throughout his work and has even created some of these patterns on tights.
REMEMBER this SAturday- the SHOW PONY celebrates our 6 year anniversary--!!
WOW , huh?
I like creating things that have unnecessary frou frou, as Office Space calls it- "Flair". In the past few weeks I've been painting little tiny paintings for my babydoll dresses. If you fall in love with the magic flair - you know where to find them (Show Pony Boutique and Screaming Mimi's)
in my dreams- everyone looks like this all the time
The Show Pony Boutique is now featuring the art/fashion pieces of Ryan Kewley Donegan. Ryan is a true nature loving artist- creating amazing things that seems to be carved from the earth. Her drawings are all crafted with pen/sometimes bleach and look aged by coffee and time.
Her leather handcrafted necklaces are rough and lovely decorated with wood beads and things. The wallpapers she has designed for interiors are unique webbed strings caught in a dangle.
Check out her goods at 1543 Echo Park AVe.
or online : http://ryankewleydonegan.com
These pieces are all copyrighted by the artist--
Did I mention she is also a twin?
That always means there is some sort of magic involved
This weekend has flashed before me like a bolt of lightning. ART party + Birthday Party + Karaoke + Late night PHO.
I am at a loss for words, tired from a long day of sun, babyshower quiche, and coronas. This heat has made everything a blur. The following photos should sum up the latest activities...
The following are from Adele Mildred's art show at the SHOW PONY. She not only packed the shop- but the entire block and managed to sell almost everything within the first 15 minutes! Truly inspiring.
these two girls were partners in crime
Rare appearance by Mr. T.
WORK before their bug gig at the UNITARD space
Later we ventured off to K-town for Miss Jennifur's KARAOKE party where the KIMME power doubled. The ladies were looking as fabulous as ever flashing magic glitter eyes and slapping tamborines.
Ghostbusters never sounded so good---
Go Go Giddle got physical, went 9-5, and took center stage while her Daddy sat by and listened
Miss Cindy brought down the house with her White Rabbit routine. So good that Mr. P kept thinking he heard Grace Slick on a backtrack. Our version of Manic Monday on the other hand was pretty sad.
That's right...darling Kate Bosworth was seen wearing my hand dyed tshirt on TRL. The young actress who once played Sandra Dee (Beyond the Sea) and broke waves in Blue Crush is going to debut as the latest Miss Lane. I can't believe how cute she is and that she is wearing my shirt on MTV. Anyway...in case you are compelled to have what this hottie has- go to www.kimebuzzelli.etsy.com and find the tunic version of this.

Hey...just recently posted on the website : www.psychopedia.com
is a little ditty about the Show Pony going over to Screaming Mimis. If you are curious to see for yourself check out the archives- the posting was from June 28.
I guess it was probably all the cold medicine that made my night portraits so hazy. I apologize for the added blur. Tonight was another ART block party on gallery row. I like saying Gallery Row even though there are really no galleries. Cynthia had a pre-show opening of GOLDMINE GARAGE. The place was packed by 9. She gave away darling bouquets and dirty mohitos. If you want to see the whole picture click on it.
this was the opening day-right after the paper was torn down-
happy little macrame planters and elephant burlap mobiles
Britt said she always wanted to work somewhere with a psychedelic apron
nina in the tapestry rocker
shopgirl behind her new counter- check out that rad fluffy bear rug behind her
who ever said a Warlock never smiles?
Viv on the new Goldmine Bed- with creepy clown one and two
miss laura has always been camera shy-lucky for her the bouquets were big
Are my cheeks really this big? I hope it was just the fever I had
Next DOOR at the SHOW PONY- the artist of the night KUTMAH went crazy. Well just a little
sometimes I think that Vinca thinks STARMAN is real. She talks to him like he a real boy
The BIRTHDAY girl with artist UMAR
Miss Lizzie is always fabulous
her sister Jennifer was on fire last night. She is also the author of a new coffee table book about Vintage L.A.
Here they both are pretending to be the twins from the SHINING-
Gaby posing in her new LUXURY Jones wrap dress
Gaby and I attempted to set up Mr. Dimples (max) with Vinca. They were shy at first but by the end of the evening they were slightly flirting. He had to go home and kept asking if she was coming too. When we told him no, he said "Why, what Happened?" She gave him the coy smile and hair flip with a giggle and waved bye slowly. They are both only three but the future holds promise
That is not a ghost folks- that is real rare sighting of Kentaro at the party
I stole this one from Viv cause she knows how to get the pose down
here's Kelly at the Lucas space--
the Dynamo kids made plush eyeballs and Keith showed his new drawings
the boys of the block
Meet the new girl on the block- Miss Cynthia- if you love owls and crazy quilts- this is the place
After the medicine wore off and the crowd took over I could no longer continue to party. I went upstairs to find St. Gabriella washing all my dishes and making my counters sparkly. I can't think of a better way to end the night then the sight of this:
I've often said that my friend Laura must never sleep. She makes handwoven dresses, resin charm necklaces - and more...all while maintaining a 9-5 job. She recently started a new labor of love- handsewn neckpieces that take up to 60 hours of handiwork. She said her eyes have started to cross and her fingers cramp. The results of her hard work seem worth it-- She has some of these dreamy stained glass like works available at SHOW PONY boutique. I like that they seem to be multiplying--growing across the collarbone-
I just came home from seeing the new movie "Friends with Money" starring my favorite Catherine Keener-(as well as Frances Mcdormand- Joan Cusack and Jennifer Aniston. ) This was obviously written by a woman. The writer/director Nicole Holofcener made Walking and Talking, Lovely and Amazing as well. Something about this film made me want to cry throughout- I identified with different things that these women said. Jennifer Aniston is actually quite sympathetic- France Mcdormand's plays a fashion designer who realizes that now that she is living the life she always dreamed of--there is nothing to look forward to. She always dreamed of the perfect life and now that she's aquired it she feels her life is repetitive and dull. I especially like that she has stopped washing her hair. She reveals that perhaps it is because before she had money she always figured the "right" expensive shampoo would give her the hair of her dreams. When she actually could afford any product on the market and still had the same hair...all the promise of "new" ceases to exist. As friends, they discuss the importance of "playdates, charity functions, and failed romance". (Most of which is actually LOST on me) I have to say I enjoyed it even though it will go down as a true Chick Flick.
The premise of the movie made me ponder my own strange career moves. Why have I stopped creating clothing as often? Why did I let my love for making fashion things disappear? These are some of the things I used to make...and often wished I would still create daily...
Sometimes at the shop things are slow. I mean they are so slow that I can predict the stillness. Not this Saturday, it was in fact so lively that it was hard to find standing room. There were stylists pulling clothes, photographers on hand, darling tourists, designers, friends and of course the Echo Park pixie...Miss Vinca.
This diva knows how to work the costumes and the camera. She also has a way with play and can make the dolls in the shop perform her magnificent dialogue.
Later in the afternoon--- designer Laura Kranitz (line LEGION OF DECENCY) displayed her new fabric jewelry creations for Cynthia and I. We were amazed at the piece and to learn it takes 12 hours to make one!
Somehow she made this sloppy silkscreened men's tshirt look pretty hot.
