Taylor holding up the book that David gave her, wise words from a man who has spent most every day on the road, with some band. The inside cover reads...(Whenever you need a reminder that it can always get worse) For those who may think that is negative thinking, alas, it is simply funny and entertaining.
A lot of my good friends are leaving for almost the entire summer! What gives? What am I gonna do when the jobs settle down and I have so much free time to kill? Who is gonna dance with me to bad music? And since when did everyone and their mother become involved in TOURING rock gigs anyhow? Geez. We threw a little send off party for David and Taylor. Both are going on the road. Miss Cynthia is already on the road til AUGUST!!
I informed my friends about the Olsen Twins, and the celeb insider tip that whenever they are about to get photographed they supposedly say "PRUNE"
Kinda looks exactly like them, huh? Maybe more Keira Knightly?
We left the bar scene and headed to Sara CAKE's birthday party. She was wearing her signature Bias cut handmade evening gown with train. Which will probably be torn later in a doorway.
the party was on a balcony, with a lovely cake and lots of trashy flappers
Late LAte we ended up at a Diner eating cherry pie a la mode with sides of french fries. The good life.
MATT and VIV: CONGRATS! They are not only getting married, but VIV is also pregnant with a baby BOY.
The happy couple held their big Bridal shower at the lovely Moroccan 1920's Hotel Figueroa dowtown. It was lovely, and later this week they will be getting hitched officially near June Lake by her daddy. I think it will be fun hanging out in cabins with tiny boats and good friends.
We couldn't help lounging in the sun drinking pretty cocktails and eating luscious desserts and exploring the amazing place.
This is the same hotel I went on my 2nd date with Mr. P and also caught the wedding bouquet of my pal Donita.
If you have never been to this gorgeous Hotel, you need to get over there this summer and hang out by the pool at least once!
(I snagged a few of these from Viv's pics)
Don't tell a soul, but Mr. C.Glancy is officially a year older.
The man behind the Monument Snowboard deal, and photographer whiz had a birthday party (on a Monday night) that filled the BAR.
the evening involved some drinks, some dancing and meeting up with some old friends I haven't seen in a long time. Overall we learned two things that night, Glancy is popular, and The Bar seems to bring out the worst in Fran and I. Scheid was bummed that I didn't give him the head's up that Glancy was a fashion photographer. Cause where there's a photographer there has to be a gang of models.
Yesterday while working at the shop my friend Annakim called and invited me to the Troubadour to see her dad play. The show was going to mark the 30 year anniversary and reunion of his old band, and was set to be a big deal! As the sun was setting, we ladies climbed into her hybrid wagon of wares. (she has a stuffed taxidermy back there, a huge butterfly kite, a beaded dragon etc...) We were excited and the warm air outside was sort of perfectly magical.
mindy wearing a glitter jumpsuit and her new beaded shrimp necklace

the smaller venue was very cozy and seemed like the audience was filled with family and ultimate fans

we all danced wildly to the music, obviously annakim more so than others. She was gyrating enough to shake the balcony and screaming FREE BIRD at times.

for the record, you are not allowed to take pics at the shows nor have a camera. So that's why these are dark and sneaky

sweet picture of annakim all sweaty and childhood friend whose dad also played with her father. My mom is English and her favorite Beatle was George. She is going to swoon when she gets a look at how handsome his son is too.

The shows continue this week (6 in a row all SOLD OUT) pretty amazing. If you can still find a ticket it's worth it. Lots of pretty country psychedelic songs and witty between song banter. Plus some rad Dylan covers!
After the show we somehow ended up at Crazy Girls. Where you also are not permitted to take pics.

cherry bomb
annakim requested ACDC and proceeded to upstage some of the ladies at work. She said she would like to do an amateur night there. We made some fast friends and then headed off to the 101 Cafe for late night food
cruising the sunset strip on a friday night while blasting FLASH GORDON soundtrack, and ACDC

Last night was my old friend Ravi's birthday. We have been pals for a long time. His friend offered up his luxurious pad in the Hills to host a last minute dance party. So Cynthia and I fetched some records and we drove up to the land of the rich. The view was insane! Imagine a panoramic sky view of the entire lit up city, pushed up beyond the deep backyard and palm trees. The 60's style home had an entire glass window back, and a full stacked bar. Which will later bring up a few regrets.
The decor was beyond minimal. I may have to apprentice under this guy and see how it is possible to have a shelf with NOTHING on it. I mean, it that possible? Where does the mail go?
After dancing til about 2:30, we all ended up in the jacuzzi. Not sure how I was coerced in there, but glad I was. That lasted til about 4. *Also not recommended, unless you want to feel flush and dizzy.
Considering I had stopped eating at about 1 p.m. earlier that day, I was ready for some bed. But no, party time Cynthia and birthday boy begged "more dance party"
Here we go again. The double punch in the face

Scheid bores easy at these affairs. I found him staring out at the landscape, surrounded by tiki torches like an episode of SURVIVOR. he left before the crazy

this is where the party started. Do not judge us by this photo, if you were there, you too would have taken advantage of the hot tub on the hill dangling over the city scape. You may not have done high kicks in the water, (which I am forbidden from posting)

So then we all ended up on awesome patio furniture staring at the stars for some more hours. Enter the potato chips. At about 5:30, Fran begged us to leave, she had to wake up and cut someone's hair by 9 a.m. We crept down the Hollywood Hills toward home and ran into a few coyotes on the prowl. Did I mention that the sun was already coming up. Ouch, my head.
Georgie said I am grounded.
My horoscope on Sunday said something about working way too hard lately and needing to socialize. It also mentioned that work could resume the next day, so stop being so hard on yourself.
So with that in mind...
my dear friends assisted me in many many joyful toasts and boxes of old 45's, and a nostalgia dance party that ended with Cynthia in the splits and me arriving back to my warm bed at 5:37 a.m.
these are my prized SOLID Gold boots that I scored in Miami when at the Art Basel. I promised myself if I sold some art I would buy them, for a mere $12 dollars SCORE

what other D.J. in town can take "You should hear how she talks about you" by Melissa Manchester and follow it up with the Thompson Twins, The Hooters, Rick Springfield and a New Edition breakdown? Did I mention the extended remixes by Howard Jones?

Weirdly enough the horoscope never mentioned that 6 intense hours of drinking, and dancing, diving onto your knees and spinning, and over 50 high David Lee Roth Kicks would result in sleeping til around 1 p.m. the following day.
P.S. the night ended with the entire Pretty in Pink Soundtrack. Nothing like a Smiths song to send you home

I spent most of my Easter Sunday working on art projects in my apartment. For those of you who don't already know...I am currently collaborating with VANS shoes on a line! It's a dream job working with cool women. The art/fashion collaboration will hit malls and shops nationwide in FALL 2009, and I am psyched. (is it obvious I've been hanging out with Scheid too many days in a row??)
Speaking of good pals, I'll be driving him to the airport at 5:30 a.m. tomorrow. Ouch
On Easter I met up for a coffee break with the ladies, Annakim in my favorite dress ever...

and her fab bedazzled snake bracelets

Miss K.K. also in her Easter dress best

I took pics of myself wearing one of Miss Petrosa's DAISY necklaces- (note the circles under my eyes due to lack of sleep and long nights)

the 85 degree view from my firescape, sorry family in Ohio. It's been pleasantly warm here

Afterwards Cynthia, Fran, David and I headed to Monterey Park for spicy Szechwan fish.
I would regret this burning later.
Back to the drawing board
P.S. Did I mention that on Monday, the seeds I planted at the Equinox party started sprouting already?
That's right- my good fortune, creativity and LOVE are bursting
If you were still here, I would call you on the phone and wish you H A P P Y Birthday. You would tell me funny stories and make me laugh. We would wonder when we could meet up again, and hang out. And when we did you would lay out all of your fabulous new clothing finds and inform me of all the latest trends and music I need to buy.
Your adventurous spirit so much greater than most.
You had a way of making me do things I was afraid of trying.
I miss you pal. I will not forget your voice, the way you folded notes, the hundreds of letters and envelopes decorated with art and stickers addressed to me.
We shall meet again someday, and til then I live my life to the fullest because of you
Last night I attended an Equinox party for ladies only. That's right, SPRING has sprung and the Vernal Equinox (like the Autumnal Equinox) is a time of balance. These are the days we welcome the light and plant new seeds towards the magical things we want to manifest in the future. According to some legends this time also reflects upon the past and atoning for the mis-deeds of our previous year. Letting go of the things no longer useful or productive to our happiness. Viv and I brought along our good intentions and nestled in the backyard of her friend Eva. The trees dangled candle lanterns and the ground was strewn with pillows and blankets. I wish I had my camera on hand to capture the pretty scene.
We all sat around and wrote down the things we needed to let go of in order to secure our future good times. Remember this time is all about:
rebirth
renewal
resurrection
liberation
letting go
sacrifices
choices
responsibility for actions
--------------------------------------------
Sure it's all on the new age side, but aren't you ready to surrender to fate?
It was an exciting feeling watching everyone throw pieces of their past in a burning bucket. It honestly made me want to rush home and box up a lot of my silly clutter and donate it pronto.
According to our friend it's a great time for Spring Cleaning - emotionally and otherwise.

*I can't wait to share all of the exciting news and projects that I've been working on with all of you!
Change
Changes
Going backward in order to move forward.
I've had an out of body experience this weekend. Well, more like an emotional punch to the stomach. I can only say that whatever doesn't kill me is definitely gonna make me stronger. As a Scorpio sometimes I feel like a real Phoenix bursting from the ashes. So many slates in my life have been getting wiped clean the past few months, new things around every corner. As a fixed sign sometimes that terrifies me, and yet the thrill of not knowing is what makes the sick and excited feeling grow into a giant flower that I imagine sprouting from my chest. Whoa that was pure poetry.
Be on the lookout for the new and improved SHOW PONY coming at the end of March.
In the meantime I am still making progress in my space. Grey Gardens be gone and good friends replace them

Check out the boots on ebay or sale! Handpainted by artist MARTHA RICH-remember the book I posted on called FREEDOM WIGS?
I'm also selling this rad CHAR handpainted leather bohemian jacket. These sweet things sell at the ROSE BOWL for like $800- $1200 sometimes

Tonight while driving home I witnessed the lunar eclipse. Slowly, ever so slowly the fingernail moon forming under a whole lilac circle. I was in a hurry with destiny to get home in time to change and make it to Annakim's bewitching party. You see, according to astrological lore, on the evening of the lunar eclipse if you write down everything you want to manifest and force out the things that no longer suit you, POW! it can come to light. So on my way out the door, running late, I made it to the car only to hear Annakim's dad singing "Free Falling" What a strange magical moment.
The evening was coated in good intentions. Towers of candy and luxurious treats, including a massive unicorn cake. As the ladies slowly showed up, we all piled on makeup and took turns pouring "sacred glitter powder" over our heads, sort of a baptism.
Sure it seems weird to you, and yet in the moment I was willing to believe in anything. I surrendered my cynicism at the door and embraced the not knowing.
We sat in a circle and took turns narrating a goblin rainbow book, every page re-imagined by a new participant. And then we ventured to the roof where we stared at the final stages of the moon phase. In a flash it was to be all gone. We decided to dance holding hands and singing "She's Like A Rainbow" loudly til the energy took over the entire room. Any awkwardness replaced by a sense of true understanding and loyalty towards each other that this moment was somehow significant to all included.
When the pizza man arrived I can only imagine what he must have witnessed through that large window, Screaming glitter raccoon eyed ladies rocking out in a ceremonial ritual. We then sat around in a circle while Annakim read:
The Death of Lovers by Charles Baudelaire
We shall have beds full of subtle perfumes,
Divans as deep as graves, and on the shelves
Will be strange flowers that blossomed for us
Under more beautiful heavens.
Using their dying flames emulously,
Our two hearts will be two immense torches
Which will reflect their double light
In our two souls, those twin mirrors.
Some evening made of rose and of mystical blue
A single flash will pass between us
Like a long sob, charged with farewells;
And later an Angel, setting the doors ajar,
Faithful and joyous, will come to revive
The tarnished mirrors, the extinguished flames.
------------------------------------------------------------
After that we sat in a circle and wrote out what we saw for our futures. The things we wanted to happen and then talked about what we hoped to kick out of our minds.
Things are gonna change, I can feel it.
The gang headed out to Dublab's GIVE UP event at La Cita. They really sell the night with the slogan, "Stop dancing and cry, and then slowly start dancing again". We conquered the dance floor (well we were the only fools dancing...) Upon entering the place D.J. Michael Stock had Pavement playing :
i was dressed for success
but success it never comes
and i'm the only one who laughs
at your jokes when they are so bad
and your jokes are always bad
but they're not as bad as this
come join us in a prayer
we'll be waiting waiting where
everything's ending here
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not even the music could turn our smiles down
Miss Annakim Violette officially turned into a glampire, and hosted a birthday shindig down at Bordello. It was the perfect spot for her Cockette/Vampire Glam themed birthday. There are dim red lights, Tapestry high back chairs, and a stage to die for! Seriously that stage looks like a trashy flapper mermaid lair.
The ladies got all made-up and then went downtown for some dancing and divine surreal cake. Memorable moment when Annakim said "This year's cake is the best one yet, even better than the time I got the Shining Jack Nicholson cake where his face is busting between the door". (That huge unicorn party one was pretty good too) The late night seemed sort of like a blur that ended in a limo heading back to Annakim's place for gift opening and pizza.
**Check out ViVs pics, she has a better camera and is a pro shutterbug:
the late night limo ride back to the Monarch Mansion

I have to say thanks to all of my great blogger fans who actually wrote comments recently or came out to the ROSE BOWL to support my declutter cause. Getting up at 4:30 a.m. after a night out with lady friends is not an easy feat. We rented a SANFORD and SON beat down U-haul that had a combo SOPRANOS advertisement with graffitti. My toes were frozen til about 11 a.m. But on the plus side, the weather in L.A. later reached a nice 80 degrees and folks were in a buying mood.
I lucked out and had the sweet spot corner over the bridge on the vintage side. The timeless beauty Marisa Tomei came by our booth, she looked even better in person.
I was excited that this cute girl with headband scored my favorite gypsy glitter gown

Emma & her pal came by to liven up our booth, as per our tradition! They had maximum cuteness

we were stalking this rad Japanese family because they were so cute! The mom and dad were so fashionable and their kid was running around the booths in her embroidered hippie dress

perhaps the best fashion statement of the day? This lil one who said" do you wanna see them closed?

this picture is my absolute proof that I have come a long way from my hoarding days. Had I seen this emerald bedazzled 20's costume in the past, I would have found a way to take it home. Instead the new me simply snapped a pic of it and let it sway in the shade.

My lovely friend and fellow Scorpio blogger Amy Lou has just tagged me online. Because I am sitting watching my cat slowly fight falling asleep on my pillow, and L.A. is exceptionally sunny and warm for this time of year, and my window is wide open and I love my apartment and the free time my occupation? allows me- I will do my best to do her justice with my answers:
First off- when you are tagged by a fellow blogger- you must site the rules of the game:
and link up to the tagger.
For those of you who have never had the pleasure of meeting Amy Lou in person, let me give you the rundown
1.) she has eyes more radiant and blue than any you will ever see- a color reminiscent of rare ocean waters- perhaps she was the one that Jon Erik Hexum donated his eyes to when he died?
2. She is fiercely loyal and dedicated to absolute unconditional love with her pals
3. She will make a mental note of anything you mention and annonymously mail you a care package with a book, or c.d. or shirt she thinks you would like
4. She can knit the most unique scarves and things
5. She knows more about things than you, like who is a good doctor, where to get your pants hemmed, news stories etc...
6. She plants a mean garden
7. She has an amazing creative and lovely family.
8. She just survived living in a haunted house!
9. Her cooking skills are amazing
10. She can talk me under the table, which is a nearly impossible task
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share 5 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
The FACTS about me:
1. First the weird: I was born without a tendon in my pinky finger on the right hand, so my pinky is always bent. I heard Einstein had both his pinkies like that, hmm Just sayin'. When I was younger one of my boyfriends refused to hold that hand, he said it freaked him out. My harp teacher in the 6th grade said it made me have the perfect hand gesture for playing.
2. I broke my back in the 3rd grade sled riding. Some boys built a 4-5 ft high ramp in the local park down a steep hill. They dared me or my friend to try it first. I took the dare and flew over the ramp- airborne- and landed with the wind knocked out of me. My parents didn't take me to the hospital til day 3, where they were informed that I had broken 2 vertebrates and fractured one and was nearly paralyzed. I stayed in the hospital for over 3 weeks.
3. I have an obsession with magazines. I have always loved looking at them, saving them, cutting things out of them, and the covers. I especially loved the original Interview matte paper excessively large covers, of Francesco Clemente, Isabella Rossellini etc... I also love to find painting inspiration in foreign HOME magazines. Often when I see a good wallpaper or painted gate, I think of compositional qualities for backgrounds.
4. I hate returning phone calls. I don't like sitting still on the phone and must pace around my apt. My mother had a similar affliction and would write "THE END" over and over and over on mail left on the kitchen counter. I don't like confrontations either.
5. I started a t-shirt design business out of my parents garage at age 8. I used to make these drawings on iron-on transfer paper. I would take orders and then use the tshirts from my papa's bank to print them on. I was also way into peeling crayons into RORSCHACH like patterns and then placing a piece of paper over them and ironing them to make pretty prints. I have the iron scar on my knee to prove this.
My moment of failure came when I drew a word in rainbow print only to have it come out backwards on the shirt.
BONUS ** and now for the TOP 5 things that really bum me out: (Besides Bush in office and War- and the situation in New Orleans...and the obvious)
1. MAYO- Ick! Probably the ony person from the midwest who despises the condiment
2. people who put cigarette butts in glasses with liquids still in them
3. People who walk really slow in front of me
4. silverfish- those creepy fast slippery lil greyish bugs that lunch on paper and silk
5. VEINS. Can't stand the sight of them. Can't give blood, can barely stand a blood pressure test
