Who's That Girl?

Nothing like a new summer muse to crush out on! I recently took a long look at the pouty gap toothed model Iekeliene Stange and immediately found an endless source of inspiration. Meet my new favorite model/muse: 46118_img441_122_79lo 45987_img431_122_1171lo 45981_img429_122_368lo 46053_img434_122_4lo 46091_img436_122_390lo 46096_img438_122_459lo 47764_artist1_122_1147lo 47771_artist3_122_100lo 47818_artist7_122_96lo 47823_artist8_122_231lo 47824_artist9_122_1021lo 47780_artist6_122_874lo 47830_artist10_122_640lo Adam4le7at9 V12 N1465920124300790115543od3 N511617443484098748wb6 N5116174434840311943am4 Maranihamf8005iekec9 Istange08febbsgallianobl3 Iekelieniemarilynaw0dt3rb1 Iekeliene12ke8 Iekeliene10fr6 Iekeliene9gz8 Iekeliene8mh0 Fwp208106pq8 Ffw0185dr4 Dior21yt2 35743_6755_122_547lo 46055_img435_122_75lo 46038_img432_122_243lo 47766_artist2_122_1145lo 47773_artist4_122_31lo According to WWWD "We enjoy her randomness, from telling Women’s Wear Daily that one of her hobbies is “making amazing tutus”—seriously—to her fondness for wearing a vintage pair of large, lens-free, red glasses to events. It’s also cool that her most beloved bag isn’t the latest designer du jour tote, but a granny-style vintage find. We’re not the only ones who approve of her look; she’s currently the face of Topshop, Sonia Rykiel, and Burberry Black Label. Stange also has impressive range as a model. She walks on the elite couture catwalks (Christian Dior, Chanel) and is picked by the best younger designers for their shows too (Phillip Lim, Rodarte, Thakoon, Alexander Wang). Of course she’s been shot by the biggies as well: Jurgen Teller photographed her for last spring’s Marc by Marc Jacobs campaign, Mario Testino snapped her for the D&G campaign this past fall, and both Tim Walker and Steven Klein worked with her for British and Italian Vogue, respectively. Perhaps all the time spent in front of the camera has informed her non-tutu-related hobby—photography—as well. Like past MOTM Sasha Pivovarova, Stange has artistic aspirations beyond her current career. She been hard at work behind the lens and it’s wildly rumored that Stange will have an exhibition in London this spring. The potential show wouldn’t be your average model-turned-whatever vanity project. The Dutch snapper is already a published photographer whose work has appeared in fashionable magazines like Japanese Harper’s Bazaar and Muse.

tap dance champ

Michelle Williams has always amazed me with her darling style. I found these scans of her from VOGUE UK April 08 issue and had to share them. I think she captures a certain timeless quality, that makes her beauty float between all eras. Check out her amazing outfits in this editorial, especially that last one with rhinestone hair clip.

are you gonna be my girl

I used to have a girl crush back in the day for actress Charlotte Gainsbourg (daughter of Serge and Jane Birken) It sort of started because I loved author Ian McEwan and his amazing book "The CEMENT GARDEN", which was later turned into a film. Normally I despise books turned into movies, but this one got it down right. She played the seductive sister who lays out on the lawn listening to the radio (think Lolita, but more tough). Most remembered in this role for her line to her brother "I'll bet you wonder what it feels like for a girl" her voice later sampled my Madonna.

Lou1

About 5 years ago I made a painting of her sister Lou Doillon leaning against a wallpapered backdrop. Her pouty mouth and interesting features most prominent. LOU has recently landed the cover of FRENCH PLAYBOY, and I'm sure has changed the minds of many on the sexiness of flat chested ladies. She exudes a Paris Chic quality, like Bardot before her. If ever the L-word needed a new season cast member, consider Lou (even her name screams bi-sexual bait)

Total Lunar Eclipse of the Heart...

It's my muse Lara Stone again, gracing the pages of Italian VOGUE and the latest W magazine. Her sultry pout and spacey teeth are part of the charming package. This first spread reminds me of all things Cockette and playdates with makeup trays. Of course as soon as the store is remodeled, it's back to painting

Don't forget tonight around 7:26-7:45 there is a total eclipse in Virgo! Let's get metaphysical!
Don't know what all this means? Let me explain it to you better, according to Elaine (who also has a cool gap in her teeth)at the MANIFEST CHANGE NOW blog:
During the phase of a Lunar Eclipse some folks feel heavy or sad or burdened with something from their past. The Solar and the Lunar Eclipse always work in tandem. The Lunar Eclipse sheds light on a feminine issue that needs to heal. Once this issue is brought to the surface the Solar Eclipse takes over and shows either how to deal with it or shows you the next direction in life.

Many times the Lunar eclipse portends a ‘letting go’ of something or a release of a behavior that no longer serves you or a situation that does not support you or in some cases the release or passing of a person in your life.

And in most cases you feel relieved that a part of your life is completed so that you can now move on. So please don’t think that disaster is about to befall you. Through the end of March you’re shown a fast track to healing. Strap on your roller blades, hang on to your trust, and flow with the go.

To learn more about Eclipses check out your astrological sun sign and rising sign info at http://www.thewholecosmos.com/

according that that wholecosmos site my sign simply states that " a Lunar eclipse means facing feminine issues…sometimes the loss of something: perhaps the loss of an expectation, an attitude, a situation or a role in life. Sometimes you're faced with how you don't allow yourself to receive. This applies to both men and women.

The Eclipses are a surge of energy to help you ride a wave toward a goal. If you've been resistant or stubborn or if your body needs to heal, sometimes the wave knocks you on your ass (sues you, divorces you, runs into your car, or just simply annoys the hell outta you) to get your attention….about what YOU have been focused on…OR on what the focus NEEDS to be.

Eclipses are portals of energy that help us facilitate issues. Be certain that by the end of March you're shown a door and given a gift to redirect your focus toward ABUNDANCE.

I dunno about you, but it looks as if the key word this month is RESOLVING A LONG STANDING ISSUE….take the time to consciously let something go in order to receive a dream come true."

WOW, huh.
I'm ready.

As Fate Would Have Dealt it

Dunst_sagan

According to the news circulating Hollyweird yesterday, Kirsten Dunst has checked into Cirque Lodge in Utah. Her rep hasn't responded to the story yet, but there were rumors last week that she was headed for trouble. The Utah rehab facility was recently home to Lindsay Lohan and is where Eva Mendes is currently receiving treatment. How can that be? Just yesterday afternoon David was contemplating the many connections that could somehow lead to meeting his star-crush. And then as fate would have it, BAM, God sends him a Gold stamped letter of Love.
What do I mean? Well I suggested that David (who is practically straight edge) get admitted A.S.A.P.
He is after all a tour manager, and exposed to endless supplies. I wrote to him and this was his swift response:

ok! i'll pick you up in 15 minutes. we'll stop at house of spirits.
i'll buy like $400 in booze. you drive me to utah and i will drink
the whole way.
i should be in perfect shape for "rehab" by the time we arrive.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think doing Spiderman 3 or 4 may have been the catalyst. She is too supreme for that.

I imagined her in rehab like this:
Img_11

David was hoping more for this, minus the fan:
Kirsten_dunst_marie_antoinette4

perhaps the attraction for David is that she looks an awful lot like family, sister even.

Found

So, the photo has surfaced.  We took it in Spain while attending a wedding, to see if we do look anything alike, like people have said.  As soon as we caught a glimpse of it we laughed because we both realized it was our cheek dimples when smiling that made us look so similar.

Wow, this picture just reminds me that before Mr. P floated into my life, I had tone arms and a svelte body.  How can 3.5 years of fine dining and late night cuddle snacks destroy all my years as a vegetarian toned body??Cimg1935

Body Double?

I received this cute email with the subject : celeb look- a- like
from a doily reader:

Dear Kime,
Hello and Happy New Year! :P I hope you are doing fantastic! Okay, so everyone has their Celeb-look-alike right? Well, I recently watched the movie Stranger Than Fiction and I must say, you take a very striking resemblance to Will Ferrell's love interest Maggie Gyllenhaal. Now I don't think you two look perfectly the same but you can see the resemblance trust me. :) Hoping this made you smile and wishing you a year of more moldy doilies!

Redir

I've been hearing this look a like theory ever since SECRETARY came out. In fact it's almost the only look a like comparison I get. *except for the time my students compared me to Ginger Spice- yikes and Mr. Gallo compared me to Elizabeth Montgomery, and a few Kirsten Dunsts- I find the Maggie comparison highly flattering- and am honored to have been emailed this.

what do you think?

Who Loves Ya Baby?

I have to admit I think Britney looks better than ever. Sure, she may be one step away from a lobotomy, but the shaved head is pretty hard core, or as David would say ..."epic". Finally you can get past all that fake weave extention hair drama and see her big eyes.

Growing up in Ohio, my little sister was a huge rebel/punk tomboy with this same look. She shaved it all off sometime in 87 to piss off our father, and in time for a Sinead O'Connor concert. I remember because it was right before Thanksgiving, and the rest of our family was freaked out. I always thought it made my sister so cool, she let it grow out an inch before dying it midnight blue to match her steel toe electric blue Dr. Martins.
Anyways, being bald is much better than having ridiculous fake hair fused to your head. If she decides to carve anything in her forehead and follow Charlie than we may have to reach out. I think it's funny that everyone is so repulsed by this move and not at all phased by all the strange celebrity plastic surgery faces. I mean what happened to Katie Courics eyes this month? How come nobody has mentioned that? I would rather be bald then look like a streched cat face with swollen lips.

Exotic Spectacle

Pola3

Sumurun_dvd_3

Last night I stayed in and watched Sumurun- a silent movie by Ernst Lubitsch that has been restored. The imagery is stunning and of course the scene stealer is Poland darling Pola Negri. I think it origianlly ran in the U.S. as "One Arabian night". Pola plays a traveling dancer who is drawn to both the harem and to the sheikh's handsome son. The movie predates the notion that a sexy figure must carry a massive bossom- as the ladies are often shown flat chested but exposing midriff. I fell in love with the dance scene- where Pola is slowly seducing the entire room with her sheer fabrics and dark shadowed eyes. This film was often referred to as one of the "funniest" silent movies, according to the new DVD release. I discovered these amazing images of her online as well as this perfect quote from the star:

"Love is disgusting when you no longer possess yourself."

In High School- I was obsessed with all things pertaining to James Dean. So much in fact that I once baked him a birthday cake on Feb 8th. In honor of his birth in 1931 -76 years ago...maybe you should go rent Rebel without a Cause tonight- or wear a red windbreaker. Don't tempt fate and drive fast around 5:55 p.m.

Michelle

I'm not sure when it hit me- but I have formed a sweet liking to actress Michelle Williams. I loved her in that movie DICK with Kirsten Dunst and in Me Without You. She graces the cover of the new Nylon and looks like a doll in the photo spread. The article really exposes her smart and shy nature, revealing her bookish desire to hide away from the miserable spot light. I was breathless when she wore that bright yellow dress to the awards ceremony. It was like a fashion prank- looking so darling and daring to wear yellow. I think she seems like she may survive the Hollywood circus untarnished. Look at her hanging with Kim Gordon, (the queen of cool). Combine all that coolness with a hot boyfriend and a new baby- presto goodness

Scarlett fever

According to press, darling Karen Elson and Jack White welcomed a daughter into the world named Scarlett, on Tuesday in Tennessee. The two talented performers have been married since June of 2005.

00010m_1
here is the new mother as she was a few months back walking the Marc JAcobs show. Pregnancy never looked so easy.
Hopefully Scarlett will have that same infamous red hair to match the name

And since my blogs as of late are all about flora let me mention that red-haired Elson appears in the White Stripes' video for the song "Blue Orchid."
I think this baby girl will be the fairest of them all. The two parents have the most envious milky complexion
Karen creates amazing music of her own in The Citizen's Band alongside an entire cast of Vaudeville style stage performers. Her voice is absolutely dreamy. Here are a few photographs from PAPER MAGAZINES site of the bandKarenelson_citizensband719162

Nastassja Kinski- and to the devil a daughter

05_1

I've always had a sort of crush on Nastassja Kinski ever since "And To The Devil a Daughter". Not a good film- but it does depict a 13 year old Kinski as a nun taken over by the devil writhing on a bed. There's always been an exotic Lolita quality to all of her films- and something mesmerizing about her pouty lips. I should mention that A.) I normally do not prefer blondes B.) am not a weirdo --I like fashion because it inspires me to paint- and therefore seek out new muses.
I noticed that up and coming model Julia Stegner seems to have channelled this powerful pouty look. Julia has the face- the eyes and the lips of our beloved Natasha--(and she is a Scorpio.) Julia Stegner- is a 22 year old from Munich, Germany who was discovered at an annual Oktoberfest. She has done countless shows for YSL, D & G campaigns as well as prime editorial bookings in Harper’s Bazaar, Italian and American Vogue. With a pristine face that goes from wholesome beauty to a fierce Nastassja Kinski- what isn't there to fall in love with? I may have a new muse for a little while.
06

00070f
I noticed that both Kinski and Stegner seem to resemble miss Jeannie Shrimpton from the 60's.
Julie even has the same initials as miss Shrimpton. Hmmm

Bianca--Big Shot?

Bianca_jagger

55aspx

I always liked the image of Bianca Jagger riding that white horse into Studio 54 on her 30th birthday. I've admired her style since spotting her in that unforgettable bridal ensemble-- Bianca is best known as the jet setting Brazilian darling who married Rolling Stone Mick Jagger in 1971. ( She has the honor of being the first wife of Mick Jagger. ) Oddly enough, around this time Bianca became concerned with women's rights. I recently found out that the Billy Joel song "Big Shot" was based on a bad date with Bianca. Wow-- I always wondered.
"they were all impressed with your Halston dress and the people that you knew at Elaines..."

What I also didn't know about this fierce lady is that she's also a huge activist--(and according to my DAD --a "bleeding heart liberal")
The end of her marriage to Mick coincided with the victory of the Sandinista revolution. In the spring of 1979, Bianca visited Nicaragua with an International Red Cross delegation and was shocked by the brutality and oppression that the Somoza regime carried out there. This persuaded her to commit herself to the issues of justice and human rights.
She has also opposed the death penalty and defended the rights of women and of indigenous peoples in Latin America, notably the Yanomami tribe in Brazil against the invasion of gold miners. From the late 1970s she has collaborated with many humanitarian organizations--and for her work, Bianca Jagger has earned several awards.

Penelope TREE: wood nymph

I found this info about Penelope Tree on a 60's flashback site--I'am the Walrus. I suppose I wanted to repost it merely for the magical compliments that photographers David Bailey and Richard Avedon gave to her as an original model. Her background is fascinating and supports the theory that perhaps she is either a wood nymph or an alien.

Penelopetree1024x768

016

She came from a rich and traditional English family who didn't appreciate her rebellious decision as a young teen to become a model. Her father was a multimillionaire, and her mother Marietta was the first woman delegate to the United Nations, and she had many powerful and famous friends in politics. The legendary photographer Diane Arbus discovered Penelope when she was only thirteen, and her outraged parents promised a lawsuit if pictures of her were published. She didn't make it into a magazine (Mademoiselle) until '65, when she was fifteen. At seventeen she met with Vogue editor Diana Vreeland. Penelope herself said that she first encountered both Vreeland and photographer Richard Avedon at the Black and White Ball thrown in late '66 by Truman Capote. Supposedly some of the Vogue editors thought she was too gawky and plain, but Avedon saw the strange beauty within her. According to Michael Gross's Model: The Ugly Business of Beautiful Women, Avedon knew Penelope was a rare find: "She's perfect," he declared, "don't touch her." Avedon then shot her for Vogue, and her rep spread around the world. By this time her family relented in their opposition. Penelope was on three Vogue covers during the decade.
Richard Avedon once said of her, "Penelope is never only of today. To each gesture she brings a sense of all the things that have ever interested her, out of this she invents every moment a new little role for herself which she plays with devastating humor ... she is a delight." Her best talent may have been for being original, according to famed photographer David Bailey: "Penelope Tree is the most original model there's ever been. She's the most original-looking girl I've ever seen." Still, there's no evidence of any acting, musical, or otherwise creative talent, unlike Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy, both of whom at least attempted movie careers and wrote books.

HER '60s LOOK: "The face of the decade" she was called by Women's Wear Daily. Photographers loved her, so she must've been doing something right. She had a face like a doll, at once young and innocent but with a scary force behind the eyes, amplified by her sometimes extreme makeup and her reluctance to ever smile in any photo we've ever seen of her. In the book The Sixties: A Decade in Vogue, she explained her exaggerated makeup: "I started it all at thirteen, I think to annoy my friends' parents." Starting with that kind of anti-establishment attitude, she was a perfect reflection of what was going on in the late '60s, and her unconventional looks symbolized and reflected the strangeness and nonconformity of the times. So different was her makeup, Jean Shrimpton said, "Her style is almost science." Weird science, that is: Penelope once shaved off her eyebrows because she wanted "to look more like a Martian than I already did." Tall and gangly, she was another of the bone-thin models who were all the rage in the swingin' '60s. David Bailey described her as being an "Egyptian Jiminy Cricket." Penelope stood 5' 10" and at that height was on par with Jean Shrimpton, plus she was some four inches taller than Twig. Penelope was often shown in bizarre settings, sometimes as a mythic figure or a wood nymph. In Radical Rags, Fashions of the Sixties, she explained her unique poses and why the public can't emulate her look: "You can't look like Vogue. It doesn't want you to. It just wants to show you what individuality is." Later Penelope admitted that she was anorexic throughout her modeling career in order to maintain that waif-like body.

LIFESTYLE: In '67 Penelope met David Bailey in the Vogue offices and soon moved in with him. Bailey, of course, had already enjoyed a passionate early-'60s romance with Jean Shrimpton and was married at the time to Catherine Deneuve, whom he wouldn't divorce until '70. Supposedly Catherine could see what was coming: One story has it that when she saw a photo of Penelope, she told her husband Bailey that he was going to fall in love with her. He did, and he and Penelope got a house and painted one of the rooms black and another one purple. Supposedly Penelope installed a UFO detector, and the place was often filled with various hippies and radicals. She and Bailey broke up in '74, and she left for Australia. Penelope later married rock musician Ricky Fataar, who briefly joined the Beach Boys and contributed several songs to their Holland LP in '72. She married again and has two children, Paloma and Michael.

what is it about the stars?

What is it about the stars (celebrities that is) that makes normal people react so crazy? Why is it that we must document the encounter with photo proof in order for it to have happened? I'm guilty of this strange behaviour. I remember getting backstage at a Rick Springfield show years ago and pulling my camera out the minute I made it to the dressing room. It was like I was already telling the story the next day before I left. I mean if you travel to see the Grand Canyon- and stand in awe at its vast splendor, do you have to have yourself in a picture next to it to prove you were really there? If someone had never told you the Mona Lisa was one of the most valuable paintings in a museum would you still think it so great?
I'm not sure of my point only that everyone seems to get silly when next to an aging celeb....even if they are wheelchair bound. 27066125607_0_alb_1

This is Fayard Nichols- dancing legend who tapped on the same stage as Bob Hope and others! He passed away shortly after this photo was taken.17740952607_0_alb_1
This is the original Bond GIRL Goldfinger----
The Hollywood Collector Celebrity shows are usually at some big Hotel Convention center where the rows of tables and made up actors sit under bad florescent lighting with headshots and other props from their movie /t.v. days. A part of you feels bad if you walk by and don't acknowledge them or want an autograph- and another part of you feels sad if you do . It reminds me of this time I went to the Ohio State FAir and paid money to see the smallest man alive. I walked up to this trailor and opened the door and this little man was just sitting there watching the COSBY show. I felt bad , like I had intruded on his personal time.

This is perhaps why there are two types of people in this world: Those that are "on" T.V. and those that "watch" T.V.52319852607_0_alb_1
This is David Carradine taking off his shirt at the Collectors show. I think he may have been trying to prove that he's still got it and can kick your ass tooRaceh2_1
this is the poster Greg bought to have Mr. CArradine autograph. I think it cost about $35 dollars and the signature probably $10 and it's folded somewhere on a shelf.

The girl who played young Tabitha in Bewitched came over to Illeana at the show and said "Your more famous than anyone here" She still wanted her photo op with Mrs. Partridge.54601952607_0_alb_1 this is our picture with the lady from LOST IN SPACE, Francine York. Cherie BOMB!!

If you've ever seen the movie FOXES...you know the super hot appeal of Cherie Currie and her white suspenders. Having hair that perfectly feathered back was a major asset. Cherie was part of the best female Rock band in the 70's...THE RUNAWAYS. These girls were the ones your mother warned you about. They rocked lingerie and jumpsuits on stage and were not afraid to kick your ass. I wrote Kim Fowley when I was young and sent him a poloroid of me in my full on Runaway makeup and zip up outfit. I got the letter back "address unknown" a month later. I was inspired by Cherie and women like her /Suzy Quatro- Blondie- Annabella From BOW WOW WOW . These young images of Cherie embody all the things I envied about my 70's babysitter Anne Marie Pocza (super feathered hair- blue eyeshadow- and that Charlies Angels long legged appeal) I was lucky enough to work with Cherie around 1999 when I helped style her for a magazine shoot. She was dressing up to look like Bowie. Damn she is still smoking hot! Since then I found out she is a "chainsaw" artist. She custom carves animals and people from hunks of wood! She creates animals with customers names and other art inspired by unicorns, dolphins and the bible. Wow. Rent FOXES and see why she lives up to the title Stone FOxCheriecurrie_mag

Take a Walk...

When I first moved to L.A. (about 8 years ago) I worked as a buyer at a vintage clothing store. Sometimes you'd get lucky and get to buy from an interesting 1980's showgirl with cool costumes or an old woman with amazing beaded 20's things. On rare occasions the seller would surrender something that they thought you would like ( for free- to keep without the boss knowing). My favorite day burned into my brain as a buyer---was the day Holly Woodlawn came to sell her frocks.
She had all kinds of 80's
